Franklin B. Walter Scholarship Winner
|
|
Kings High School senior, Renee Perpignan has been named a recipient of the 7th annual Franklin B. Walter Scholarship Award.
Recipients of this scholarship are selected by virtue of their academic achievement, personal accomplishments, and community service. In Warren County, each district’s recipient is awarded a $500.00 scholarship from Warren County Educational Service Center. A teacher/mentor is recognized by the student and those individuals are awarded a $250.00 stipend to be used for classroom/school use. Renee's chosen mentor is Kings High School Spanish teacher, Lindsay Six.
Renee is the daughter of Gregory and Kunhye Perpignan. She has maintained a 4.86 weighted grade point average while in high school and will graduate having earned 33.25 credits while taking some of the most rigorous academic classes offered including 10 Advanced Placement and 15 Honors classes; which is more than any student in this year's senior class.
Not only is Renee an amazing academic student, but she is also a member of the National Honor Society, was a high school cheerleader, and participated in Drama Club all while performing in the Honors Symphony Orchestra for all four years. Renee is still undecided on which college she will attend this fall but has received several offers with generous packages.
The Franklin B. Walter All-Scholastic Award was established in 1989 by Ohio’s County Superintendents to recognize student achievement and promote academic accomplishment. One senior from each of Ohio’s eighty-eight counties receives this prestigious honor each year.
Congratulations to Renee on this prestigious honor!

This week, the Kings High School and Kings Junior High Hope Squad celebrated Hope Week.
Hope Squad is a peer-to-peer suicide prevention program. Students who participate in Hope Squad are nominated by their classmates as trustworthy peers. The program helps to reduce youth suicide through education, training, and peer intervention.
In honor of Hope Week, both Squads' goal was to spread joy and positivity. Both Squads planned activities during the week including visiting classrooms to share more about Hope Squad, theme dress-up days, a therapy dog visit, and both buildings were treated to ice cream by Shine Orthodontics.
Students also offered mental health awareness swag for students at lunch and did their best to increase awareness of Hope Squad to help reduce the stigma around mental health.
In case you missed it, Local 12's Kathryn Robinson visited Kings High School During Hope Week to learn more about it as she spoke with KHS sophomore, Brendan Stock. Watch here.
