Mental Health Update

We are excited to share about a shift in the prevention programming that we provide to our Kings students! The last few years we have focused on educating our students, staff, and community around 1.) The risk factors and warning signs that individuals often show when they experience suicidal ideation; and 2.) Teaching individuals how to connect to the help and resources available to them.  We believe in this work at the intervention level and will continue to provide this education to parents, staff, and students. As our students’ needs change and grow, we are excited to share that we are  shifting toward a more comprehensive and universal suicide prevention strategy.

Ohio's 133rd General Assembly enacted House Bill 123, the "Safety and Violence Education Students (SAVE Students) Act," regarding school security and youth suicide awareness education and training. The state legislation calls for a comprehensive approach to school safety involving the Ohio departments of Education, Public Safety, Mental Health and Addiction Services and Attorney General’s Office. This bill requires school to utilize an evidenced-based program instructing staff and students on suicide awareness and prevention as described by Ohio law.

In the 2023-2024 school year, we will move to the Sources of Strength program. Sources of Strength is an evidence-based, upstream, strength-based prevention program with a vision to Empower a Well World. Sources works toward this mission by helping students tap into protective factors, or Strengths, that help all people as they navigate the ups and downs of life. Sources increases youth-adult connectedness, normalizes help-seeking behaviors within schools and communities, and increases connection and belonging. Sources believes that if we engage in and practice the leading causes of life, we will reduce the leading causes of death.

To learn more about Sources of Strength, join us March 20, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. for a webinar on Sources of Strength in the Kings community. Once you register, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar.

School Calendar Updates

The Kings Board of Education approved a revised academic calendar for the 2023-2024 school year. You will notice that two extra days were added on to Winter Break. These days are conference exchange days. Please be sure to update your calendars.

The Board also approved the 2024-2025 Academic Calendar.

Imagination Library

Have you enrolled your child in the Dolly Parton Imagination Library? This incredible gift of reading in Warren County is made possible by the Warren County libraries. It is a county-wide effort through the Ohio Governor's Imagination Library.

The program will deliver a free book each month to all children from birth to age five. The theme of this program is "Every Child Reads Every Day."

Currently, there are 10,000 Warren County children enrolled in the program; about 900 active Imagination Library readers in ZIP Code 45039. That's about 43% of all eligible children. With your help, we'd like to increase that to 1200, or around 2 of every 3. When those children are ready for kindergarten, the majority of your new students will have three or more years of reading experience.

Do you know a family with a child from birth to age five? Tell them about this program!

Warren County's Imagination Library Program was established in 2020. The Warren County Foundation has created an endowment to support future book purchases and ensure the program remains financially sustainable.

Enroll your child for FREE in Ohio Governor's Imagination Library today!

You can follow Warren County Imagination Library on Facebook.

Road Closure

King Avenue, between Miami Street and the Peter’s Cartridge Factory Apartments/Cartridge Brewing entrance, will have intermittent daytime road closures to through traffic from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. beginning Wednesday, March 15, for approximately two weeks, weather permitting.

The closure is necessary for the new bridge steel superstructure delivery and erection north of the Little Miami River in connection with the King Avenue Bridge Replacement Project. Access to the Peter’s Cartridge Factory Apartments and to Cartridge Brewing will be maintained at all times from Grandin Road.
