KHS Receives Purple Star Designation
This week, the Ohio Department of Education announced that Kings High School has received the Purple Star designation and is a member of the Purple Star Class of 2024. This year's class includes 171 schools from across the state.
The Purple Star Award recognizes schools that show a major commitment to students and families connected to our nation’s military. Schools that earn the award will receive a special Purple Star recognition to display on site.
A school is honored with a Purple Star if it completes the required activities needed for designation. Ohio is home to 600 active Purple Star schools that dedicate time and support to students in military families.
“Ohio is a leader in its support to military families and the Purple Star program is a wonderful example of how this support extends to children in our schools,” said Governor DeWine. “I applaud Ohio’s Purple Star schools and thank them for supporting military-connected students and ensuring they have the services and learning resources to succeed.”
KHS joins J.F. Burns, who just received their renewal for three more years, Kings Mills, and South Lebanon Elementary as Kings Local School District Purple Star Schools.
Congratulations!

KHS Senior Awarded Franklin B. Walter Scholarship
Kings High School senior, Annika Kleinhenz has been named this year's recipient of the 9th annual Franklin B. Walter Scholarship Award. She was honored in a luncheon sponsored by the Warren County Educational Service Center and attended by several Warren County officials and elected officials on Friday, April 12, 2024.
One student per Warren County school district attends the awards banquet. Recipients of this scholarship are selected by their academic achievement, personal accomplishments, and community service. Each recipient also chooses a mentor and recites a letter to their mentor during the awards luncheon. Annika's chosen mentor is Kings High School Art teacher, Angie Guilfoyle. In Warren County, each district’s recipient is awarded a $500.00 scholarship from the Warren County Educational Service Center. As Annika's chosen mentor, Mrs. Guilfoyle will receive a $250 stipend to be used for classroom/school use.
Annika is the daughter of Lucas and Stacy Kleinhenz. She is ranked in the top 10 in the Class of 2024. Annika participated in an architecture internship with the Monkey Bar & Grille playing a role in the design of the upper-level patio lounge and new bar and restaurant location. She illustrated a book called His Name is Everett, published in August 2023, and has volunteered nearly 100 community service hours. She plans to study Architecture at the University of Florida or North Carolina State University.
The Franklin B. Walter All-Scholastic Award was established in 1989 by Ohio’s County Superintendents to recognize student achievement and promote academic accomplishment. One senior from each of Ohio’s eighty-eight counties receives this prestigious honor each year.
Congratulations to Annika on this prestigious honor!

This crazy, R&B-singing carnivore promises unending fame and fortune to the down-and-out Seymour as long as he keeps feeding it, BLOOD. Over time, though, Seymour discovers Audrey 2's out-of-this-world origins and intent toward global domination!
There are four opportunities to see the show – May 2, 3, and 4 at 7:00 p.m. and a 2:00 p.m. matinee on May 4. Little Shop of Horrors is rated PG-13. Tickets are on sale now at www.kingstheatre.net/tickets.
