Thank You, Kings Assistant Principals
We'd like to recognize our wonderful District Assistant Principals as we celebrate National Assistant Principal Week.

Thank you to Brent Allen, Ron Corradini, Jeff Miller, Lori Stovall, and Jenny Wilson for the significant role they play in the overall academic achievement of our Kings students.

Assistant principals are essential to establishing a positive learning environment that ensures each student and adult is known and valued.
KME Art Installation
Kings Mills Elementary has a new art installation in the front entrance of the building!

KME students and staff collaborated on a glass project with Brazee Street Studios in Oakley. In February, Art teacher, Katie Heagen taught Kindergarten through Fourth-grade classes the terminology, safety, and process of working with glass.

Students decorated a 2.5” glass tile with frit and streamer. Staff tiles were backed in red, while student tiles were backed with a shade of blue. Special thanks to the KME staff, School Resource Officer, Trent Barker, and Board Members Peggy Phillips and John Skerl for taking time out of their schedule to create a glass tile.

Thank you to the Kings Mills Elementary PTO and community members for funding the glass installation. Mrs. Heagen said, "Each tile is a legacy, a mark, a story that can’t be erased."
KHS National Merit Finalists
Congratulations to Katie Gabert and John Ulm who have been named National Merit Finalists, advancing them one further stage in the National Merit Scholarship Program.

The finalists had to have been previously named a semifinalist and were then selected based on their academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment, and honors and awards received. A finalist must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by a high school official, and write an essay.

To become a finalist, students take the PSAT/NMSQT (Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test). Students who achieve a top score on this test are named commended students by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). Approximately 7,500 National Merit Scholarships will be awarded this spring.

KHS Principal, Doug Leist said, "Although we all know them as remarkable seniors, it's wonderful for them to receive this broader recognition."
Blood Drive a Success!
On Wednesday, April 7, the Kings/Hoxworth Blood Drive took place under new leadership. The Drive, which was previously overseen by the late Jorge Gonzalez was the highest drive collection since 2006.

Rana Southern, Kings Orchestra teacher (pictured below in the red shirt), and the new blood drive coordinator said this new position is an honor to be able to carry on the work that Jorge started. Mrs. Southern also received help with the drive from Lucy Gonzalez who was helping to carry on her dad's legacy.

Recorded results:
  • 66 volunteers try to donate
  • 25 first time donors
  • collected 55 units of lifesaving blood; The potential to save the lives of more than 165 patients.

Their goal for this drive was to make it the biggest yet in memory of Mr. Gonzalez and organizers say it was a huge success. Hoxworth Blood Donor Recruiter, Sharon Ficklin-Hardy said, "Rana and your team have stepped into those shoes with grace and power of Jorge's passion and legacy!"

Mrs. Southern said, "Thank you to everyone who helped me make the drive happen and came out to donate. Jorge would be pleased and proud, I think."

The next scheduled blood drive is Wednesday, September 14, 2022.
