Kings Staff Visit Local High Schools for Design Ideas
This week, several Kings staff members along with some administrators and board members went on a bus tour to visit Fairborn and Winton Woods High Schools.
Both high schools have been recently constructed. Our team had the opportunity to see first-hand the latest designs for school classrooms, auditoriums, cafeterias, and collaborative learning spaces.
They brought back many ideas and are ready to collaborate with our architects and designers at SHP, who received the James D. MacConnell Award for their design of Winton Woods High School. The MacConnell is given to only 4 projects worldwide. It is widely considered the most prestigious award for school planning and design.
Watch the video below that shows the highlights of the tour.
During this year-long design process, the District will include staff, parents, and the community for feedback. Stay tuned!

Kings Theatre Presents Little Shop of Horrors
Kings High School Theatre presents Little Shop of Horrors, THIS WEEKEND May 3 and 4 in the KHS Auditorium.
After a bizarre solar eclipse, Seymour finds a bloodthirsty and very unhealthy Venus fly trap and he names it Audrey 2. After placing the plant in the shop's front window, Audrey 2 becomes a commercial success.
This crazy, R&B-singing carnivore promises unending fame and fortune to the down-and-out Seymour as long as he keeps feeding it, BLOOD. Over time, though, Seymour discovers Audrey 2's out-of-this-world origins and intent toward global domination!
There are three more opportunities to see the show – May 3 and 4 at 7:00 p.m. and a 2:00 p.m. matinee on May 4. Little Shop of Horrors is rated PG-13. Tickets are on sale now at www.kingstheatre.net/tickets.

Kings Mills Elementary second graders completed their unit of study on economics by hosting a cafe on April 25 and 26. The students served snack items to other students, teachers, parents, and Kings Administrators with the hope of raising money for Make-A-Wish of Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana.
The second graders had various roles such as servers, kitchen staff, cashiers, and bussers. They raised a total of $1,557.00! The teachers also secured a $500 OEA Foundation Grant that will be donated to Make-A-Wish, making the overall total $2,057.00.
This week, Sara Grammel and Mary Perkinson from Make-A-Wish visited KME for the check presentation. They also presented KME with a beautiful book displaying children who have had successfully granted wishes. KME second-grade teachers are Amy Edwards, Lynn Jenkins, Pete Kaczmarowski, Courtney Shuman, and Sherisse Washington.

KHS Moot Court Team State Runner-Up
On April 12, Kings High School students participated in a competition called, Moot Court.
Moot Court is different from Mock Trial in that Moot Court focuses more on student attorneys presenting oral arguments to a panel of volunteer judges who are practicing attorneys or judges. This activity is more of the appellate process in terms of the court system instead of calling witnesses to testify. Before the competition, the students must compose a legal brief related to their arguments and send it to be evaluated by a panel of judges.
As students presented their oral arguments during the competition, they had to respond to questions posed by the judges and relate their responses to the case at hand. The students were evaluated on their application of the law to the facts of the case. While presenting, these students applied Constitutional law to current legal issues that strengthened their critical thinking skills, and increased their understanding of the Constitution and the judicial system.
The students participated in five rounds in which the judges questioned each student attorney for 10 minutes.
This was the first year that Kings has sent a team to compete in this tournament and they advanced to the final round and were crowned State Runner Up! The Moot Court team from L-R: Cristian Corro Zambrano, Thomas Lu, KHS Moot Court Adviser, Mrs.Lisa King, Lucy Taylor, and Lily Mueller.
Congratulations!

KHS and KME Student Collaboration
Kings High School students recently entered a contest in partnership with Kings Mills Elementary 4th grade students centering around art and writing.
The contest required that their submission reflected a door, window, or mirror into their story and experience in life. The KHS students presented their art and writing to each 4th-grade class at KME. Student art and writing included poetry, paintings, digital drawings, chalk drawings, and photography.
This week, the KHS students visited KME and presented the story behind their piece, answered questions about their work and process, and gave our 4th graders previews of what courses they can look forward to at KHS that have helped them grow their craft.
KME students shared their own stories and love for writing and art. Our KHS and KME students also had time to connect in discussing how art and writing help find motivation to overcome obstacles and build a greater appreciation for oneself and others.
The KHS students who participated are Morgan Bennett, Gwen Bildstein, Marin Bode, Vik Kibbey, Taylor Kleis PJ LeMarble, Keira McCoy, Ali O'Rourke, Bri Ries, Alaina Schimpf, and Rowan Thrasher, pictured below with KHS History teacher, Joy McGee, KHS Principal, Doug Leist, KME Principal, Shawn Rosekrans, and KHS English teacher, Katie Isaacs.
What a great way to collaborate between our high schoolers and elementary students! Check out the student submissions here.

KHS Real Money, Real World
The students in Mike Stevens Government classes Kings High School have a financial literacy curriculum where the students have the opportunity to learn a little more about dealing with everyday finances.
Laura Stanton from the Ohio State University Extension Office was at Kings High School on Friday, April 26, where she brought the program, "Real Money, Real World," a real-life financial simulation.
This simulated program gives participants a career, a certain number of children, and a monthly paycheck. The students then have to learn to budget for their expenses. Some learned some hard lessons!
