Kings... A Best Community for Music Education
The Kings Local School District is proud to announce that we have, once again, been named a Best Community for Music Education by the Nationa Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education.
The Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students. To qualify for the Best Communities designation, Kings music teacher Scott Hayward answered detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program, and community music-making programs.
This is our 7th year in a row to be awarded this special designation, and we are grateful and proud of our award-winning music staff: Carolyn Dillon,
Scott Hayward, Matt Jenkins, Jennifer Maegly, Mike Maegly, Brian McDonough, Hope Milthaler, Joe Polen, Jennifer Reeder, Melanie Sherby, Rana Southern, and Chris Weber.

Kings Mills Elementary second graders completed their unit of study on economics by hosting a café on April 27 and 28. The students served snack items to other students, teachers, Kings Administrators, and parents in hopes of raising money for Make-A-Wish of Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana.
The Second graders had various roles such as servers, kitchen staff, cashiers, and bussers. They raised a total of $1306.66! In an effort to increase the overall donation, Mr. Paul Robinson, husband of second-grade Paraprofessional, Emily Robinson and president of Pioneer Cladding & Glazing Sytems pledged an additional $500 towards the students' project making their total raised $1806.66.
This week, Sara Grammel from Make-A-Wish visited KME for the check presentation. KME Second Grade teachers are Amy Edwards, Pete Kaczmarowski, Courtney Shuman, and Sherisse Washington.

New District Online Spiritwear Store
Thank you to all who participated in our recent Spiritwear survey! We have listened to your feedback and we are so excited to bring our community several new ways to purchase spiritwear!
The most convenient option is to visit our new Kings Online Spiritwear Store provided by our partner ROKKITWEAR. They are a local company that offers Kings Organizations profits for the spiritwear sold. They offer quality garments and accessories.
To place an order, visit the online store and click the school/organization that you would like to support. Once you select the item you prefer you will have the option to choose from a menu of customized Kings designs. If you have kids in multiple buildings and would like to spread out your purchase to allow for profit, you have the option to give credit to more than one within the same order. Meaning, you can check out once knowing your proceeds will still return to the building/organization of your choice. All items will be printed and sent out within 5 business days! You can also personalize any item in the store!
Another new way to purchase spiritwear will be to look out for our pop-up shops that will happen at different times within the school year! During these sales, you will find limited edition items priced competitively that are sure to sell fast!
We will also be hosting our Spread the Spirit resale at each of the Back to School open houses for $2 per item. Don't forget to clean out your closets for the sale! Please bring your gently used spiritwear to any school building by May 13.
THIS WEEKEND ONLY enjoy a 10% discount on your order when you use the code KINGS23 at checkout. We encourage you to check out the site and get that discount!
Thank you so much for supporting these various ways to shop as all of the proceeds come back to help fund each school's PTO or athletic club. We also appreciate the work of the Spiritwear Committee who worked hard to bring this to our families! #KINGSSTRONG

Kings Theatre Presents Legacy Robe
Prior to the opening night's performance of The Music Man, Mr. Scott Hayward, Musical Director had the privilege of awarding the Kings High School Theatre Legacy Robe to senior Sophia Canino.
Taking its inspiration from a Broadway tradition, the Legacy Robe is awarded prior to each high school theatre production to an outstanding cast member who has gone above and beyond to create a legacy of excellence in our Kings High School theatre program.
As a graduating senior Sophia leaves a legacy of dedication, commitment to self-improvement, and working as hard as possible to create an excellent performance in every production regardless of the role she was cast in. Hayward said, "Sophia has been a consistent bright light in our theatre program since junior high and we will miss the energy and sunshine she brings to our rehearsals and performances."

Moving up to high school from junior high can be a scary time for some students. To make that transition a little less stressful and a little easier, Kings High School hosted Kings Freshman Camp Thursday, May 4 and Friday, May 5.
This 2-day event introduced upcoming freshmen, (this year's current 8th graders), to KHS student leaders who will help ease them into their first year as high schoolers. The incoming freshmen were treated to a tour of the high school, team-building activities, guest speakers, student speakers, and lots of fun and laughter packed into the two days. A highlight of the event featured eight KHS students who shared with the upcoming freshmen times where they had to overcome some sort of adversity or an obstacle in their life in a segment called "I overcame."
Additionally, they were divided into “families.” Upperclassmen “parent” those families— creating relationships and hopefully making the freshmen feel more comfortable in their new high school home. Kings Seniors, Nick Hoying, and Grace Jones were the masters of ceremonies and helped the days run smoothly. The whole day was facilitated by fifteen KHS staff members who poured themselves into the students to ensure they had a positive experience.

Kings High School students in the Multiple Disability classrooms attended the Daylight Prom.
This prom is held during the school day for Warren County students with multiple disabilities. It was first started by Patty Dever from Lebanon High School years ago and the tradition continues with the hard work and planning by Little Miami High School's Student Government.
This year's Prom was held on Friday, May 5 at the Savannah Center in West Chester. The Candyland-themed event welcomed students in their prom attire to have fun in a safe environment and meet students from other districts.
Kings High School MD staff added personal touches for the students by giving them manicures and helping them style their hair before the big event. The students also wore candy necklaces and Candyland-themed bracelets.
Kings High School Assistant Principal, Ron Corradini rolled out the red carpet for the students to walk on their way to the bus. Watch the red carpet parade here.

In an effort to be "green," the District does not send paper flyers home. We use a platform called Peachjar that houses flyers of community programs and resources.
Parents receive approved flyers via email, and they are posted on our digital flyerboard for easy retrieval. Any organization can distribute information to our community by creating an account!
