Back to School Information
Now that the 2021-2022 school year is complete, we have already started planning for next school year!

The last couple of years, we have started school with a "staggered start" where we brought smaller groups of students in at a time to give our students and staff the opportunity to begin to form relationships.

We will be staggering the start of the 2022-2023 school year as you see below.
Summer Lunch Program
The Kings Local School District Food Service Department in partnership with South Lebanon Community Center/Joshua's Place is participating in a FREE Summer Meal Program.

The program will provide FREE meals and nutritious snacks to children 18 and younger and for youth ages 19-21 who have a mental or physical disability and who participated in the program during the school year.

Meals will be provided on Mondays and Wednesdays from 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. June 6 through July 20 at the South Lebanon Community Center, 83 N. Section Street, South Lebanon.

If you have any questions, please contact Kings Food Service Director, Jennifer Arlinghaus at 513-398-8050, ext. 10027.
KHS Engineering Classes Partner with Danis Construction
The students in Kings High School's Engineering 3 classes have had an up-close and personal experience of the new Mercy Health Kings Mills Hospital.

For the past 7 months, the students have been meeting regularly with the Project Director from Danis Building Construction Company, Jason Carter and the Director of Business Development, Nick Hoyng, and their team to learn about what it takes to plan, build, and complete a large construction project. They spent time teaching the students about the hospital project, project management techniques, and civil engineering, as well as budgeting, site planning, project planning, and all the different careers that are affected by such an enormous project.

KHS Engineering teacher, Jason Shields said, "The students have learned so many valuable skills for their future engineering careers." He said the biggest realization for the students was how complex the planning and timeline for the project actually is. KHS senior, Tate Mount said, "I can't believe how long and complex the whole process is and how hard it would be to keep things lined up and on time."

The Danis Team also visited the KHS Employability classes. They told the students that there are over 31 different career pathways that are involved in building the new hospital.

The District is thankful for the valuable partnerships such as with Danis that are helping to develop the next generation of engineers, construction managers, and trades!
Alumni News
Kings High School Class of 1998 Alum Cheryl (Bronstein) Kahn has recently published a Young Adult fantasy book.

Cheryl's first book, Touch, has already received an award in a Juvenile/Young Adult book competition. The book starts a young adult series about five sisters separated by circumstance but bonded by their unique abilities tied to the human senses. Touch is about a girl whose every brush of skin on her skin causes burning and triggers visions of the other person’s darkest secrets, but may be a signal of her greater power and hidden abilities.

At Kings High School, Cheryl was an active member of the color guard and winter guard with Krissy and other friends (they were world champions in 1997 and 1998), and Cheryl was also a National Merit Scholar.

After graduation, Cheryl attended college and law school in California where she now lives and works as a writer. Her dreams of writing began in 6th grade when she and her best friend, Krissy (Main) Laubernds (also Class of '98) penned a story in a spiral notebook during recess.

Congratulations, Cheryl!
Mrs. Reece's Kindergarten Class at South Lebanon Elementary performed a mini-concert. Watch out, world, the Class of 2034 is coming to get you!
Free Meals Ending
For the past two years, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) provided waivers to Child Nutrition Programs across the United States, allowing these programs to offer all students breakfast and lunch meals at no charge, regardless of income status. This program expired on the last day of school this year for school meals.

Beginning next school year (August 2022) we will go back to our normal lunch service. Families will need to complete a Free/Reduced Meal Application in order to receive free or reduced meals at school. Students who do not qualify for Free/Reduced Meals will need to purchase meals at school next school year.

If you think that your family qualifies for Free/Reduced meals, even if you think you may not, it is very important to fill out an application NOW. This program is confidential.

This application will provide carryover coverage for the first 30 days of school, and upon the student’s eligibility will provide free or reduced breakfast and lunch upon the return of the new school year.

Summer Reading Programs
The Summer Slide is a decline in reading ability and other academic skills that can occur over the summer months when school isn't in session. Numerous studies show that kids who don't read during summer break actually slip in reading ability by the time autumn rolls around.

We have provided you with some Summer Reading Programs in our area to help your students. Thank you for supporting your student to prevent the Summer Slide!
The Ohio Governor's Imagination Library provides a free book each month for children from birth to age 5. Learn more about it by clicking the image below.
