For the past two years, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) provided waivers to Child Nutrition Programs across the United States, allowing these programs to offer all students breakfast and lunch meals at no charge, regardless of income status. This waiver has expired. Free and Reduced Meals remain available however an application for the program is now required.
We encourage all families to complete a Free/Reduced Meal Application so the student’s eligibility can be evaluated based on the program guidelines. Students who do not qualify for Free/Reduced Meals will be charged full price for purchasing meals.

In July, we sent information to our Kings parents regarding an Operating Levy that will be placed on the November 8, 2022, ballot.
The 6.4 mill Operating Levy will fund the day-to-day operations of the District including personnel and services for students. The levy will cost $224 annually or $18.67 monthly for every $100,000 in true home value. True home value is the value of your home recorded on the Warren County Auditor’s website (this amount may be different than what you believe that you can sell your home for). The median (or middle) true value of homes in Kings Local School District is $244,920. The cost for the median home would be $549 annually or $45.75 monthly. Link here to calculate your cost.
We have received many questions regarding the levy, so we created a Frequently Asked Questions document and placed it on our website. This document will be updated as we receive additional questions.
If you have any questions regarding the upcoming levy, please contact Kings Treasurer Mike Morrow at mmorrow@kingslocal.net.

Parent/Student Reunification Protocol
|
|
Please read this important information regarding District emergency plans.
The Kings Local School District takes the safety and security of our staff and students very seriously. As a part of an Ohio Revised Code requirement, the District is required to inform students and parents/guardians before the first day of school each year of our emergency parental notification protocols.
In the event of an emergency where an evacuation of the school building is necessary, we have identified off-site locations (reunification sites) to transport students to safety. In emergency situations, we will disseminate information through our All-Call system, as well as use email, text messages, website, and district social media. Additionally, we will continue to provide updates through the above avenues as needed.
The Kings Local School District believes it is as important for parents to know the resources the district will use in the event of an emergency. It should be noted that an evacuation from any given campus may cause your children to be picked up at a secondary location. If this circumstance occurs, we will utilize a parent reunification form to reunite you with your child.
We will ask parents to be sure that their emergency contact information is up to date in our files in order to be contacted in case of an emergency. Feel free to check your account in School Messenger for accuracy, as well.
A Reunification Information Document will be used in the event of an emergency where a reunification process is required. This document will assist us in releasing your child to you at the reunification site. Please take some time to fill out the form and put it in a safe place in your vehicle to be used as necessary.

Immunization Requirements for 7th & 12th Grade
|
|
If you have a 7th or 12th-grade student, you will need to ensure their vaccinations are up-to-date before school.
Students entering 7th grade will need to have one dose of the meningococcal (MCV4) vaccine and one dose of the Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, and acellular pertussis) vaccine.
Students entering 12th grade will need to have a second dose of the meningococcal vaccine. The second dose must be administered on or after the 16th birthday. If the first dose of the meningococcal vaccine was administered after the 16th birthday, a second dose is not required.
The Warren County Health District offers vaccines. Call for an appointment at 513-695-1468.

Suicite & Crisis Lifeline Number Change
|
|
In case you missed it, just a few weeks ago, the U.S. transitioned the 10-digit National Suicide Prevention Lifeline to 988—an easy-to-remember three-digit number for 24/7 crisis care.
U.S. Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra said, “988 is more than a number, it is a message: we’re there for you. Through this and other actions, we are treating mental health as a priority and putting crisis care in reach for more Americans.”
This number is available nationwide for individuals in crisis, and their loved ones, to reach the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline more easily.
