Kings Operating Levy Information

The Kings Local School District has a 6.4 mill Operating Levy on the November 8, 2022 ballot.

Last week we explained why Kings needs an operating levy. This week we are giving our readers information on how to register to vote.

Have you registered to vote?

Have you moved recently? Not sure where to vote? Not sure if you are registered? These are all great questions.

You can register to vote online very easily. However, if you want to vote in the November 8, 2022, General Election, you must do so by October 11.

October 11 is also the deadline to request an absentee ballot. Voting absentee is easy, avoids long lines at the polls, and ensures you can vote, no matter what.

Use this link to learn how to register to vote, check your voter registration, apply for an absentee ballot, critical voting deadlines, and more.

Community members are encouraged to visit our Levy FAQ page to learn more. We will continue to add questions to this page as we receive them.

If you would like to learn more about the Operating Levy, please contact Kings Treasurer, Mike Morrow at mmorrow@kingslocal.net

KHS National Merit Semifinalists Named

Three Kings High School seniors have been named semifinalists in the 68th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. The National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) mailed Certificates of Merit to principals across the country, notifying them of the students who have advanced to Semifinalist standing in the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Congratulations to Aaron Groff, Sam Webster, and Zach Spring, who are among only 16,000 students from across the nation competing for $28 million in scholarships.

To qualify as a semifinalist, students earned top scores on the 2021 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Millions of students in tens of thousands of high schools take the exam each year. The nationwide pool of semifinalists, representing less than 1 percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state.

KHS Senior Day of Service

Back in September of 2010, the Kings High School Class of 2011 created the Community Service Club and participated in their first day of service. Our KHS Class of 2023 represented the Kings District well on Monday, September 12, as they participated in the National Day of Service.

The entire KHS senior class spent their school day volunteering with KHS teacher chaperones around the Kings Community and the greater Cincinnati area, such as Kings school buildings, Matthew 25 MinistriesNew Life Furniture BankSPCA Cincinnati4 Paws For AbilityGorman Heritage FarmCarter Park, Stepping Stones, and more.

Thank you to the Kings High School Community Service advisers, Tracy Goldie and Lynn Brant, and the KHS seniors for their service.

Hispanic Heritage Month

Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the contributions and importance of the Hispanics and Latinos to the United States and those American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America, and South America.

The Hispanic Heritage observance began in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson. The start of this observance is set around the independence day of many Spanish-speaking countries in North, Central, and South America. In fact, Mexico celebrates its Independence Day on September 16.

Kings Homecoming Parade

Kings Homecoming is in 2 weeks! The ever-popular Kings Homecoming Parade will take place on Friday, September 30, beginning at 5:30 p.m. The parade will run from KME to the KJH parking lot.

All groups are welcome to walk in the parade. To participate in this year's parade, groups must submit a permission slip and release of liability.

**Due to construction, the parade route will be altered from years past. It will begin at KME and travel down College St., turn right at Church St. to right on Walnut St., and then left on King Ave. and will end at KJH. See the map below.

Digital Flyers

In an effort to be "green," the District does not send paper flyers home. We use a platform called Peachjar that houses flyers of community programs and resources.

Parents receive approved flyers via email, and they are posted on our digital flyerboard for easy retrieval. Any organization can distribute information to our community by creating an account!
