Kings Staff Covid-19 Vaccinations |

We wanted to give you a brief update on COVID-19 vaccinations for school staff.
We don’t have a date for the vaccination clinic yet, but we are told it may start as early as February 8 for our Kings staff. Each school district in Ohio was asked to team up with a local vaccination partner. Kings has partnered with Kroger.
To make sure our employees have every opportunity to receive the vaccine, the District may need to have a Remote Learning Day for all students on the day that Kroger comes to Kings for the staff vaccination clinic. Kings will have well over 500 employees vaccinated in one day.
Additionally, our staff will receive a second dose that will be scheduled approximately four weeks after the first dose. We may need to have another Remote Learning Day when that is scheduled, as well.
We will communicate the Remote Learning Day date, if needed, with you as soon as we receive that information from Kroger.
We appreciate your support and all that you are doing to minimize the spread of COVID-19. We are thrilled that we have been able to be in school, in-person since September. We will continue to do all we can to keep our buildings, staff, and students as safe as possible.

Kings Theatre Receives Donation |
|
Last night at the Kings Junior High's production of Broadway Knights, Kings Stagelighters was presented with a check for $2,000 from the Daumeyer family in memory and honor of their daughter, Kaylyn (pictured).
The Daumeyer's created a fund to support the arts at Kings after their daughter, Kaylyn passed away. This will be the 8th year presenting a scholarship to a senior that has been involved in the theatre program while at Kings.

Children's is offering COVID vaccine to people who are age 16 and over with special needs. All clinics will be at the main campus on Burnett Avenue. Dates and times are:

New KHS Course Offering - Fashion Studio |
|
A brand new course offering started this year at Kings High School. Kings High School Art teachers, Stacy Hoffert, Angie Guilfoyle, and Carrie Cooke collaborated to create career-based art & design choices for students. The course is called Fashion Studio. There are currently two categories for students to choose from; Art Studios which include Painting, Drawing and Sculpture/Ceramics courses or Design Labs which include Architecture, Interior Design, and Fashion Studio.
The goal is for students to experience a mock design firm to see if this may interest them as a future career. The teachers plan on giving students experience working with local businesses/design firms for feedback and direction and hope to incorporate co-op opportunities for seniors in the future.
There are currently four sections of Fashion Studio and they hope to add more next year. This class is for sophomores and above. There are no prerequisites but Drawing is recommended. At the end of each semester, students will create a Fashion Show to showcase their designs.
Due to lack of staffing, Interior Design was put on hold for this year but they hope to offer it in the future along with a lab class called Product Design.
Mrs. Hoffert said, "Mrs. Guilfoyle, Mrs. Cooke, and I are very excited to share new artistic opportunities with our students. It has been amazing to see these Fashion Studio students progress from never holding a needle to designing and creating a whole garment!"

The Warren County Area Progress Council is seeking nominations for the 2021 Project Excellence Award.
The APC seeks to recognize and honor excellent teachers within the public schools in Warren County. We ask your assistance in identifying exceptional educators who demonstrate excellence in instruction or innovative teachers who have pioneered a teaching method. The educator must hold a current teaching certificate and work for the public school system.
Nominations are due by February 28, 2021. Last year's winners were Heather Clements and Theresa Frazier (pictured), as well as Julianne Elder, Hope Milthaler, Abby Burroughs, and Karin Gonzales. Previous winners are not currently eligible for consideration.

Social-Emotional Health Tip on Sleep |

Learn more about the Character Effect with Kings Social & Emotional Health Coordinator, Kim Sellers.
This year, we began the rollout process of The Character Effect in grades K-6, which is a universal social and emotional learning program that improves the culture of our school's community by building on everyone's innate strengths. This "teacher first" approach helps us focus on teacher self-care through mindfulness and adds the element of parental involvement by engaging parents through fun and accessible tactics and a common language known as Character Strengths (you may also hear about strength spotting from your student), based on the foundation of positive psychology.
Even though this year has been extremely challenging for teachers with the pandemic, they have embraced this program and are so creative in weaving it into their everyday classroom teaching. You may have heard the phrase "Emotional Intelligence" being used a lot over the last few years in the business world. Emotional Intelligence is the capacity to be aware of, control, and express one's emotions, and to handle interpersonal relationships judiciously and empathetically. With The Character Effect, we are building on that emotional IQ that is so important not only for young people but also for adults.
Kings has partnered with Beech Acres and the Warren County Mental Health Recovery Board to provide The Character Effect in our District. Our Character Effect Specialist assigned to Kings, Whitney Russell, provides one-on-one and group coaching and ongoing support and consultation to teachers, building principals, and counselors. Recently, Whitney and I have had the privilege of observing a few of our amazing teachers in action using The Character Effect in their classrooms.
Pictured below are a few visits with some of our teachers who have embraced TCE (and more to come!): Kristin Rudy (KME), Christina Shepard (KME), and Susie Burdine (SLE). In addition, Abby Jackson (CIS) invited Whitney and me to a Character Effect activity she did during remote learning week in January - so creative and so fun!
School Counselor Tom Snyder (SLE) shared a resource from "Color A Smile" which is a non-profit organization that sends hand-colored or drawn pictures to our Troops overseas or Senior Citizens to put a smile on their face. Mrs. Burdine used this as a part of her Character Effect lesson on Kindness during this week's Kindness Week! Check out the awesome The Character Effect Bulletin Board created by Mr. Winebrenner at CIS.

JFB Care Packages for the Troops |

This year's Valentine's packages for the troops project at J.F. Burns Elementary will show appreciation and support for a JFB parent. Sgt. Drew Macke was deployed right before Veterans Day.
This year's collection will directly benefit him and his unit. If you would like to donate any of these items, please get them to J.F. Burns Elementary by Friday, February 5.

Mobile Mammography Van at Kings |

The Mercy Health/Jewish Hospital mobile mammography van will be in the Kings Local School District to offer screening mammograms for our female community members. Mammography screening takes approximately 10-15 minutes and will be available at our schools on March 22 and 23.

Kindergarten Registration Begins Feb. |

Kindergarten Registration for the 2021-2022 School Year will begin in on March 8. All registrations will be completed online. Watch for more information in February. Remember, your child must turn 5 years old on or before September 30, 2021.
Online registration for grades 1-12 for the 2021-2022 school year will begin June 1.

Lady Knights Softball will offer a Pre-Season Clinic on Saturday, February 20 from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. in the Kings Education Center & Activity Barn.
