Kings Taxpayers to See Another Tax Reduction
School Finance Update

Being fiscally responsible is a goal of the Kings Board of Education and the Kings Local School District. We are always looking for ways to save money.

As a way to help save the Kings taxpayer's money, this week at their regular meeting, the Kings Board of Education approved an additional reduction in the debt retirement tax rate effective January 1st. This initiative will decrease property taxes.

National School Bus Safety Month
The month of October is National School Bus Safety Month. We are so thankful for our bus drivers, monitors, and transportation staff who take great care in making sure our students are safe to and from school.

Each year, our students in K-3 get a visit from Bus Driver Bob to learn about bus safety. This year, being a little different with physical distancing and in trying to avoid any large groups, Kings Bus Drivers Bob, Mr. Dan and Miss Michelle chose to create a safety video for our teachers to show to their students.

Take a look at the video below. The drivers incorporate bus rules and have some fun while they are at it. The best part is that the students will recognize their bus drivers in the video!

Special thanks to Mr. Dan and his son, Hayden who filmed and produced this great video!
Learning Selection Changes
Due to the very high numbers of students enrolled in our Online Knights Program, we will not be allowing any students wishing to move from In-Person Knights to Online Knights. Any new K-8 student who enrolls or any K-8 student who would like to move out of in-person learning will be enrolled in the Virtual Learning Academy. Thank you for your understanding.
KHS Academic Achievers
Since there was no Knight Nation News last week, we are celebrating both week 3 and 4 Kings High School Parent Teacher Organization Academic Achievers!

Week 3 honorees are Jenna Millecker and Jake Young and Week 4 honorees are Lia Jimenez and Stephen Gerstner. Learn more about why they were chosen by clicking on their pictures below.

Typically, these students are recognized at half-time of the football games, but this year, due to COVID-19 restrictions, this annual tradition will not be able to happen in person.

Congratulations!

Neighborhood Bridges
We told you about a new program in our district that will help serve those in need.

Neighborhood Bridges is a three year old charity that invites school districts, mental health agencies, and clergy to advocate for those in need – then engaging each community to come together to help solve those needs.

Our Kings Neighborhood Bridges is looking to get the word out to both those who could use some assistance, as well as those who may be willing to help. Community members and businesses are encouraged to subscribe to Neighborhood Bridges-Kings by visiting our website at: https://www.neighborhoodbridges.org/community/kingslocal-oh. There is no cost to subscribe and then residents are notified of specific ways they can help.

Click here for an introduction from our local Neighborhood Bridges volunteers. Residents can also follow along on FacebookTwitter, or on Instagram.

For more information about Neighborhood Bridges - Kings, residents are encouraged to send questions to kingslocal@neighborhoodbridges.org.
Kings Hope Squads
We are elated that the Kings Hope Squad is off and running at the High School! They have an amazing group of 39 students and 5 advisors that are ready to spread HOPE and POSITIVITY around the school and our community. The Squad is looking forward to impactful meetings, activities and events ahead!

They had their first meeting last Friday in the high school gym. The members welcomed new Freshmen students, broke into small groups, shared ideas, and discussed plans for this year. They ended the meeting by writing motivational messages on hearts and placing them on cars in the parking lot before the final school bell rang!

KHS Lead Hope Squad Advisor, Lisa DeBord told Knight Nation News that the KHS Hope Squad is facing a unique challenge this year. "Mental health crises and risk of suicide is on the rise, makingr work more important than ever. At the same time, our educational system includes an unusual hybrid learning environment right now. Thank you to the community for your continued support!," she said

The Kings Junior High School Hope Squad is in the process of nominating new members and will be up and running very soon.

Hope Squad is an evidence-based suicide prevention program that teaches students, staff, and community members to recognize the signs of suicide and equips them with the tools to connect at-risk students with appropriate mental health resources.

Showing Gratitude at JFB
Art making allows students to recognize, explore, and express emotion and feelings. Mrs. Laura Acierno, Visual Arts teacher at J.F. Burns Elementary, has put a focus on Social and Emotional Learning this Fall.

She said, "When considering what students have experienced over this past year, I knew this fall would be different. I wanted to establish comfort, ease anxiety, and build a stronger support system for our students," This year, she begins and ends class with Mindful Moments. This includes gentle breathing exercises, self hugs, and kinesthetic mantras.

Check out the beautiful Gratitude Mural that the JFB 2nd-4th grade students collaborated to create!

FREE Community Art Night
The Kings Art Club and Kindness Club is dedicated to spreading kindness through art to adults and children of all ages. The creator of the Club, KHS Art Teacher, Carrie Cooke started offering the Free Community Art Nights last year and the purpose is to give the opportunity for adults, young children and families to come together and enjoy a free activity involving the arts.

During this free art night, supply bags will be sent home with any student in the Kings School District containing supplies to create your own Thankful (leaves) or Gratitude (hearts) salt dough ornaments.

This Free Art Event will give families the chance to bond together while creating a message of hope and love. Hopefully, each person that participates will create a tree installation either for their family or as a surprise for a loved one.

This month's Community Art Night is sponsored by the Kings Foundation.

Also, Kings Art and Kindness Club is creating thinking of you cards for the Lodge Nursing & Rehab Center. Their hope is to be able to deliver a large number of cards before Thanksgiving to let the residents know that they are being thought of and loved. If you would like to participate, please contact Carrie Cooke at ccooke@kingslocal.net. Cards are due by 11/2.
Flower Pot Auction Ends 10/28
Last spring the Kings High School Art and Kindness Club created a Flower Pot Auction to Benefit Joshua's Place and ultimately had to shut down the auction due to the Coronavirus.

Joshua's Place works hard all year round to feed our students in need, so please consider placing a bid on one of the flower pots for sale. The flower pots come in 3 different sizes and would make a great gift to let someone know you care!

Click here to view the post and BID NOW. Bidding ends on October 28.

Kings Volleyball Gives Back
Every year the Kings Volleyball program commits one match to raise funds for a philanthropic effort and calls this match Volley For A Cause. An organization is chosen every year by the seniors.

This year, the organization chosen was National Alliance for Mental Illness-SW Ohio. Senior player Chloe Wolf said, "Mental health services are greatly needed. We all know someone who has been affected by mental illness. The growing need for Mental Health services is why we decided to select NAMI for this years Volley For A Cause."

The V4C match this year was held Saturday, September. 19 against Fairfield. Normally the team holds bake sales and other fundraisers but with COVID restrictions, the team decided to use a Dine and Donate by Buffalo Wings and Rings, along with an online donation and raffles at the match.

Despite the constraints, the team still raised $1316.16 and presented the check at their last home match on October 13, 2020. Great job KVB 2020!
