National Principal's Month

October is National Principal's Month. This month we honor our Kings Principals for their significant impact on the success and well-being of our students. We will be celebrating our District Principals throughout the month.
We asked Kings High School Assistant Principal,
Jeff Miller,
why he loves being a principal. He said, "
Being a principal has allowed me the opportunity to be a part of so many people's lives. I thoroughly enjoy working every day with teachers and other colleagues to create opportunities for kids, students to identify and pursue their dreams, and families to guide their children toward success. I feel blessed to have found a career that has given me the chance over many years to create relationships with such a wide variety of great people

Kings Offers Screening of Anxiety Documentary
|
|
On November 7, 2019, Kings Local School District will host a special screening of the documentary and to open up a dialogue between local families, community leaders, and experts. The event will feature a viewing of the 56-minute film, followed by an informative panel discussion. Parents and students are encouraged to ask questions.
Anxiety disorders are the most common mental health challenge in the U.S., impacting 54 percent of females and 46 percent of males, with age seven being the median age of onset, according to the World Health Organization. While anxiety disorders are highly treatable, only one-third of those suffering receive treatment. Everyone involved in the development of “Angst” has a personal experience with anxiety – from the producers to the interviewees.
The screening will be held in the Kings High School Auditorium, 5500 Columbia Rd, Kings Mills, OH 45034 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. This viewing is open to the public.

Kings Hope Squad members launched their second year last Friday, October 18. The students and advisers attended a retreat at Camp Joy. The students participated in QPR training (Question, Persuade, and Refer) and learned the signs of suicide. They also participated in team building activities to strengthen the relationships between the members.
Hope Squad adivser, Erin Hackman said, "It is amazing to watch this program continue to develop and make a positive impact on our schools and community!"
Hope Squad is an evidence-based suicide prevention program that teaches students, staff, and community members to recognize the signs of suicide and equips them with the tools to connect at-risk students with appropriate mental health resources.

Community Art Night a Success
|
|
The Kings Art Program hosted a Community Art Night on Wednesday, October 23. The FREE event gave adults, young children, and families an opportunity to enjoy an activity of creating a Giving Plate. Kings High School Art Teacher, Carrie Cooke said that she had 70 participants sign up.
Cooke also noted that she will be hosting several more free community art nights this year. She said, "
My goal is to offer free community art nights to our community to promote kindness and family bonding time through the arts
."

Kings Bus Driver Published Book
|
|
Congratulations to Kings Bus Driver, Michelle Landon, AKA, Mrs. Michelle, who recently published a book. Each year, Mrs.Michelle likes to reward the students that ride her bus for good behavior and grades. She said she wanted to do something different so she came up with the idea to write an adventure book called,
Squad 12
, with each of her rider's name in the book.
The book is about a robot who protects her students on the bus from Dr. Argon who is trying to rule the world and destroy Coast City. Mrs. Michelle and her riders become Squad 12 and save Coast City together.
Mrs. Michelle said, "

he first thing that came to mind was to have them to become a big robot, something that they can relate to. And where they would have to work together and have unity to build lasting friendships. Something I like to have on my bus

Mrs. Michelle dedicated her book to her bus riders.The proceeds from the sale of the book will help students in the District who cannot afford to go on field trips. Great job, Mrs. Michelle!

JFB Candy Drive for the Troops
|
|
It’s that time of year again! J.F. Burns Elementary School's Annual Candy Drive for the Troops. Our goal is always to exceed the previous year's haul. Last year we collected over 3000 pounds of candy and treats for deployed troops.
This is the 9th year that J.F. Burns Elementary School will collect Halloween candy to send to the troops overseas. All candy is sent via the Yellow Ribbon Support Center.
The candy drive will begin on Monday, November 4 and run through Wednesday, November 13. Candy (and monetary) donations can be brought to J.F. Burns Elementary There will be a drop box located in the main hallway for after-hours donations.
All types of candy and snacks (including chocolate) will be accepted (no candy shaped like body parts please). If possible, please send the candy into the school in a zip-lock baggie. We will also gladly accept donations of quart size zip-lock baggies! There will also be a drop box located at Mac's Pizza Pub Landen!
Monetary donations are accepted to help cover the cost of shipping. You may send a check made payable to "The Yellow Ribbon Support Foundation" or make donations via PayPal

Kings PowerPack Program Community Pack
|
|
The Kings PowerPack Program provides weekend food for nearly 250 students every week. The program is sponsored by Joshua's Place.
This year, Joshua's Place is inviting the community to help pack food at their monthly community-wide pack days. The next community pack day is on Saturday, November 2. The packs will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the South Lebanon Community Center.

Kings U Knights Helps for the Holidays
|
|
Kings U Knights is a 501(c)3 organization that helps provide holiday gifts to Kings students in need. Each child receives 3 gifts (2 clothing and one fun) with a total value of approximately $75 per child.
In 2018, with the help of the Kings Community, Kings U Knights were able to provide gifts for 100 families with 266 children. Since 2015, they have sponsored 917 children in 336 families.

FREE ACT - SAT Planning Workshop

Current Sophomores and Juniors and their families are invited to attend a FREE workshop on details about the ACT and SAT. Learn the best time to take the test, strategies on earning scholarship money, and more!
The workshop will take place on Wednesday, October 30 from 7:00-8:30 p.m. in the KJH Multipurpose Room. All attendees will be registered to win a FREE LEAP ACT-SAT Prep Essentials Course.

KHS Sophomore Fundraiser for Our Military

Kings High School Sophomore,
Alex Deutsch
continues to collect socks for his Socktober fundraiser through the month of October. Donations of new socks will support U.S. Military through the Yellow Ribbon Support Center. He
collected over 1,100 pairs of socks, and is looking to blow that out of the water this year!
All Kings schools are collecting socks and you will have an opportunity to donate at the Kings Varsity Home Football game on October 25.
If you are interested in donating, please drop your socks in the SOCKTOBER box at any school building.Keep up the great work, Alex!

Kings High School and Kings Junior High Ski and Snowboard Club will begin sign-ups have begun and will continue through November 4.
The Club will travel to Perfect North Slopes on 4 consecutive Wednesdays in January and February. The Club is offering a 30% discount to
