Congratulations Kings Marching Band

Congratulations to Kings Marching Band for being named 3A Class Champions of the 2020 Central States Judges Association (CSJA) Virtual National Marching Band Championship.

This year's marching band competition season was canceled due to COVID-19. However, our Kings Marching Band began practicing in June to prepare for performances during the home football games.

The CSJA, a marching band judge's organization, invited high school bands from the United States to submit a video performance of up to 10 minutes. The judges then scored bands for music ensemble performance, music general effect, visual ensemble performance, visual general effect, percussion performance, and auxiliary performance.

The CSJA said, "Each and every submission was clear evidence of the commitment and dedication to music education from the administration, directors, staff, students and parents of each ensemble in this unprecedented and challenging time."

Way to go, Kings Marching Band! Thanks also to this year's Seniors pictured below.

Fall Athletic Signing Day

On Wednesday, November 11, the Kings Athletic Department celebrated three student-athletes who have committed to continue their athletic endeavors at the next level.

Those that signed were: Jules Fink - Utah Valley University (Volleyball), Chloe Wolf - The Ohio State University (Rowing), and Jake Young - West Virginia University (Swimming).

Veterans Day - A Special Story

As always, it was an exciting Veterans Day around the District. Veterans Day was honored through special announcements along with video and outdoor parades.

One story, though, stood out. Jillian Macke is a third grader at J.F. Burns Elementary. She was seen standing with a cardboard cut-out of her dad, Master Sergeant, Drew Macke. You see, normally Jillian would have her dad with her on Veterans Day. However, this year, he is deployed overseas. In fact, he just left last Sunday for a 6-month tour.

While her dad was unable to be at the annual parade physically, Jillian stood bravely along the Veterans Day parade route at JFB with her "dad" in her hands. Her mom, Tammy said, "During the last deployment, we had the cardboard cutout of Drew made. He goes everywhere with us."

Last Sunday, Drew left for his 6th deployment. As they said goodbye, Jillian's older sister and brother, KHS twelfth grader Grace and tenth grader, Garrett had the cardboard Drew with them, as well. Grace will be graduating in the Spring and Drew was given special permission to come home a little early so as not to miss the special day.

Thank you, Drew and the Macke family for sharing your story. We hope Drew has a safe deployment and the 6 months goes by fast!

Kings COVID-19 Dashboard

In case you missed it, Mr. Ackermann sent out a video message reminding families to remind their children to continue to wear masks, social distance, avoid large gathering, and wash their hands. We are proud that we have been able to maintain a relatively safe and healthy school environment so far. We know that many of us are having COVID fatigue but it is important for ALL of us to continue to try to stop the spread of COVID-19.

Each week the COVID-19 Dashboard is updated with number of positive cases and quarantines.

Please continue to perform a daily health assessment on your student before coming to school. You can utilize this Decision Tree to help decide if you should send your child to school.

KHS Theatre Presents - Romeo & Juliet

Kings High School Theatre will present Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. This year's Fall play is not your typical Romeo and Juliet.

The production is set in 2020 New Orleans during the height of the election season. The theme line to the play is "Divided We Fall." Play Director, Pete Moore said, "The kids have worked so hard. Shakespeare is difficult under normal circumstances, but this group has come together to create an amazing show despite the obstacles. I couldn't be more proud."

Romeo and Juliet - Divided We Fall will take place Thursday, November 19 through Saturday, November 21 at 7:00 p.m. and a Saturday Matinee at 2:00 p.m. in the Kings High School Auditorium.

KHS PTO Supports KHS Advisory

Each month Kings High School has Advisory time, a time during 5th bell where students are given an opportunity to research career and college readiness options, as well as relevant issues for high school students, as directed by the KHS Counseling Department.

The KHS PTO is supporting the Counseling Department by donating gift cards for students who complete their activities. Students have the opportunity to win $25 gift cards for places like Amazon, Chipotle, DQ, and Panera.

The winners for September and October are 9th grader Austin Staubitz, 10th grader Reagan Eschbach, 11th grader Corinne Folchi, and senior Mae Thomas. All students, both in person and remote, have the opportunity to participate in advisory and be eligible to win. Thank you KHS PTO!

The next BOE meeting will take place on Tuesday, November 17 at 6:00 p.m. This meeting will be livestreamed on the Kings Youtube channel.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, in-person participation will be limited.

The Board of Education meets meets the 2nd Tuesday of every month for a Work Session at 5:30 p.m. and the 3rd Tuesday of every month for a Regular Meeting at 6:00 p.m.

KHS Academic Achievers - Week 7

Kings High School top students are being recognized each week by the Kings High School Parent Teacher Organization.

Week 7 honorees are Michelle Jiang and Devin Swartz. Click here to learn more about Michelle and Devin.

Typically, these students are recognized at half-time of the football games, but this year, due to COVID-19 restrictions, this annual tradition will not be able to happen in person.

Join Us for the Next Community Learning Series

Join us next week for the first Community Learning Series of the year - Street Smart Ohio. This session will highlight trends of teen drug use. This informational session will help parents learn about current trends, terminology, and some of the ways that teens can conceal drugs in everyday items such as a container of gum.

Bring Joy to a Kings Student for the Holidays

KingsUKnights is a 501(c)(3) organization that helps families at the holidays. So far this year, there are 132 families that have been referred with 337 children. KingsUKnights has sponsors for many of the children, but still have a need to support about more 40 children.

Additionally, KingsUKnights have seen a big reduction in donations from local churches who have historically been a large support for the program.

KingsUKnights is looking for:

a couple of business sponsors or groups to sponsor the large families ($500 each).
a couple of business sponsors who could contribute cash for Kroger gift cards (they plan to give out about $8,000 worth).
Donations of laundry detergent. They are hoping to give a bottle to each family.
