We are proud that we have been able to maintain a relatively safe and healthy school environment so far. We know that many of us are having COVID fatigue but it is important for ALL of us to continue to try to stop the spread of COVID-19. Parents- please remind your students to continue to wear their masks and maintain proper social distancing. It really works!

Please continue to perform a daily health assessment on your student before coming to school. You can utilize this Decision Tree to help decide if you should send your child to school.

Meet Kings Contact Tracer - Christy Salek |
|
To help identify positive and exposed individuals of COVID-19 the District hired a Contact Tracer.
Let us introduce Kings Contact Tracer, Christy Salek, RN.
Christy works behind the scenes, collaborating with the building nurses and school administrators to identify individuals who are close contacts of a person infected with COVID-19. By quickly identifying students and staff members who may have been exposed can help control new outbreaks before they're able to grow.
Salek also works closely with the Warren County Health District to provide them with important health information. Once identified, Christy will call parents to walk them through quarantine protocols, talk about testing, and help with other resources. She said that the contact tracer job was a challenge for her at first. "I am used to being in a classroom working with special needs students," she said. Staying organized and keeping excellent records is important to be successful in the job.
She said "Being the bearer of bad news to families who are already dealing with stress is hard." But she says that parents that she has dealt with so far have been kind and understanding.
Christy is a 4 year employee of the Warren County Educational Service Center. She has worked as a Registered Nurse for 25 years. She is the mother of two boys; one a freshman at Notre Dame and the other a freshman in high school. She is a huge Bengals fan and loves the outdoors.

Social and Emotional Health Update from Coordinator, Kim Sellers
Hello Kings Parents and Caregivers!
The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) in partnership with the Mental Health Recovery Board of Warren County is hosting a virtual presentation specifically for parents/caregivers of high school and middle school aged youth. This presentation is 50 minutes and is a wealth of information around mental health, with an opportunity for a Q+A session. This presentation called Ending the Silence, will give a message of empathy and hope to reduce stigma. This flyer has the details for more information and how to register.
I also wanted to share 1N5's State of Mind Speaker Series for you to view on demand. Be sure to check out Dr. Stuart Slavin's presentation on Teen Mental Health: Sources of Stress and Implications for Change. It's excellent!

Kings to Continue FREE Meals |
|
Recent communication has been received by the United States Department of Agriculture (U.S.D.A.) that they are approving the extension for FREE meals for all students. This unprecedented move is part of the unwavering commitment of the U.S.D.A. to ensure that all children have access to nutritious meals as the nation recovers from the COVID19 pandemic.
ALL students will continue to be provided FREE breakfast and FREE lunch meals until the close of the 2020-2021 school year or until the expiration of the federally declared public health emergency (COVID19) or until federal funding is depleted, whichever is earlier.

Kings High School top students are being recognized each week by the Kings High School Parent Teacher Organization.

Typically, these students are recognized at half-time of the football games, but this year, due to COVID-19 restrictions, this annual tradition will not be able to happen in person.

Two Kings Cross Country Runners to STATE |
|
Two of our Kings Cross Country athletes will compete at the OHSAA State Championships this Saturday, November 7 at the Fortress Obetz!
Last Saturday, Sara Doughman (Junior) qualified for the OHSAA State Championships at the Regional meet in Troy, Ohio where she finished 15th overall with a time of 19:18. The Women's team finished in 14th place overall at Regionals. Senior Alex Justus also qualified for the OHSAA State Championship with a regional time of 16:07 and finished 10th overall.
Alex will run in the Division I Men's State Championship at 3:00 p.m. and Sara will run in the Division I Women's race at 4:00 p.m. Follow along this Saturday HERE for live results.
Join us on Saturday, November 7 at 11:45 a.m. in the front lot of KJH as we send Sara and Alex off to the State meet. Wear your Kings colors, make signs, be creative!
