Food Service Continues to Provide for ALL Students
|
|
As soon as the pandemic pulled us out of school in March, our Kings Food Service Department went into overdrive to make sure our students were fed, even while they were at home.
Each week they provided 5 breakfasts and 5 lunches for anyone who needed it. That service continues even now for our online and virtual learners.
Currently, the Food Service Department is serving approximately 200 online and virtual students weekly, which equates to 2000 meals per week. Breakfast Meals include a variety of breakfast items such as Nutrigrain bars, cereal, and fruit. For lunch, the food service staff prepares meals that they serve frozen. Meals this week included roast turkey with potatoes and vegetables. Other offerings include chicken nuggets which are served with a whole grain dinner roll and vegetables, and other favorites like mini corn dogs and pizza. They also provide fresh raw vegetables and assorted fresh fruit, as well as juice and milk.
Kings Food Service Director, Jennifer Arlinghaus said, "Our food service team works endless hours to pack and distribute these meals for our families. It is a team effort and the food service employees do an outstanding job!"
For all Online Learners (Virtual Knights, Online Knights, APEX Knights) the Kings Food Service Department will continue the weekly drive-up meal pickup program. Meal packs are provided that include a week of breakfast meals and lunch meals, that offer a variety of fresh and ready to prepare foods. Please use the meal order form to pre-order.
Additionally, FREE meals will continue to be provided for ALL in-person students, as well. Our District is thankful for the continued support of the U.S. Department of Agriculture and to the Ohio Department of Education for providing this opportunity for the students.
If you have questions please contact Jennifer S Arlinghaus, R.D., L.D., Food Service Director Kings Local School District at 1-398-8050, extension 10027.

More great information from Kings Social & Emotional Coordinator, Kim Sellers.
Students are at increased risk for mental health challenges while out of school during winter break. Our partners at Mindpeace developed these resources to support students in their time away.
Additionally, wait lists have been longer for some outside outpatient therapists. Beckett Springs has just opened a Telehealth Partial Hospitalization/Intensive Outpatient for more intensive needs for youth ages 15-17 (and 18 if still in high school). Therapist James Lattimore will be leading and there is still current availability. If your adolescent could benefit, please call 513.942.9500, or feel free to reach out to me if you need assistance getting connected to school based or outside mental health resources.
