Treasurer's Office Recognized for Transparency
|
|
The Kings Local School District Treasurer's Office has been recognized by the State of Ohio, yet again! Ohio Auditor Keith Faber announced that Kings Local Schools have received the highest achievement in Open and Transparent Government practices!
The StaRS public records system was launched in 2019 in an effort to further promote more open and transparent government operations. The ratings acknowledge the accomplishments of those public entities meeting Ohio's public record and open meeting laws, and those exceeding the legal standards by implementing a number of identified best practices.
In Ohio, 2,812 entities were audited for public records. Kings received four stars, the highest rating available. More than 59% have achieved compliance meaning they have received, at minimum, a single star rating for meeting Ohio’s public record laws. This includes 385 local governments, schools, first-responder agencies, and other public bodies that have achieved a four-star rating.
It’s important to note that receiving even a single star is an accomplishment in maintaining public records in a standard that meets Ohio law. So, receiving four stars means that Kings has implemented a number of additional efforts and policies above what is necessary by law.
Kings Treasurer, Cary Furniss said, "This recognition demonstrates our commitment to good governance and transparency. It also acknowledges our efforts in showing accountability through the implementation of the Ohio Online Checkbook and the live streaming of Board meetings."
Congratulations to the entire Kings Treasurer's Office on a job well done!

Transportation Survey Results
|
|
Thank you to those of you who participated in the District Transportation Survey.
At this week's Kings Board of Education Meeting, Kings Superintendent, Tim Ackermann reviewed the results with the BOE.
We received 1,530 responses from parents and the community and another 387 responses from Kings Staff.
The results show that parents and the community are nearly split in their decision between 2-tier and 2.5 tier transportation, while the Kings staff prefer the 2.5 tier over 2-tier 64.1%-35.9%.
The Board will take some time to review all of the results and will discuss more at the April Work Session on Tuesday, April 13.
Again, thank you for taking the time to complete the survey. Your feedback is much appreciated!

The 4th-grade students at Kings Mills Elementary have been working with KME Music teacher, Matt Jenkins on music reading skills. After learning a short piece of music by singing using do-re-mi syllables, the students learn the letter names of the notes on the treble staff and then sing the piece using those letters.
Pictured are Mrs. Jane Weed's 4th graders in the culminating activity of the lesson where while playing xylophones and glockenspiel, they transfer what they have learned to read and sing to a performance on their instruments.
