Best Community for Music Education
We are excited to announce that the Kings Local School District has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from The NAMM Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education. This is the sixth time and the fifth year in a row that the District has received this designation!

Now in its 22nd year, the Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students. This distinction was awarded to only 686 Districts.

ο»Ώ"To have received this designation as we fight along with all performing artists to survive is so poignant. We specifically thank the administrative team of the Kings Local School District for their trust as we have navigated this pandemic and kept our ensembles playing and singing," said KHS Choir Director, Hope Milthaler.

The NAMM Foundation is a non-profit supported in part by the National Association of Music Merchants and its approximately 10,400 members around the world. The foundation advances active participation in music-making across the lifespan by supporting scientific research, philanthropic giving, and public service programs. For more information about The NAMM Foundation, please visit www.nammfoundation.org.

Congratulations to all of our Kings music educators who continue to make a difference in our student's lives and bring beautiful music into ours! Special thanks to Mr. Scott Hayward for his work in submitting the application.

Teachers of the Year
Congratulations to Kings High and Junior High School Music Teacher, Brian McDonough and J.F. Burns Elementary School 1st grade teacher, Emily Roewer who have been named winners of this year’s Project Excellence Award, sponsored by the Area Progress Council of Warren County.

Every year, the APC seeks to honor two innovative or excellent teachers from each Warren County school. Community members and staff are encouraged to nominate teachers for these awards. Mr. McDonough and Mrs. Roewer will be honored at the 34th annual APC recognition banquet on May 5, 2021.

Mr. McDonough has taught at music Kings for 9 years. He is also the Director of the Kings Marching Band.

Mrs. Roewer has taught in the Kings School District for 11 years. She is also a Kings graduate!

The Area Progress Council – a countywide private business organization – started Project Excellence in 1988 as a way to honor and recognize excellent educators. APC solicited funds to create an over $1 million endowment for this recognition program. Since its inception, Project Excellence has honored over 650 educators and awarded $500,000. This year's honorees will be given $500 for personal use and $250 to their district for a classroom or district-wide project.

Congratulations on this prestigious honor!

KHS Students Test for Biliteracy
On Tuesday, April 13, thirty-three Kings High School students took the Seal of Biliteracy Test.

The Seal of Biliteracy is an award given by a school, school district or county office of education in recognition of students who have studied and attained proficiency in two or more languages by high school graduation. The Seal of Biliteracy takes the form of a gold seal that appears on the transcript or diploma of the graduating senior and is a statement of accomplishment for future employers and for college admissions.

There were five different languages being tested; Spanish, French, German, Russian, and Portuguese. Multiple students tested in 2 languages (for tri-literacy) and 1 student tested in 3 different languages, hoping to attain 3 seals on her diploma!

KHS Spanish teacher, Lindsay Six said, "This is the first year of testing on our campus. With the help of Heidi Murray, Doug Leist, Chris Chamberlain, and Matt Freeman we are able to bring this to our campus and provide this opportunity for recognition for our students."

"Last year was our first year of testing, but due to the pandemic, students tested at home," she said.

Since last year, the program has really grown where only nine participants tested in three languages.
Summer Program for English Language Learners
Miami University Regionals and the Regional Campuses Global Programs is excited to announce the fourth year of the Free 8-week Online Intensive English Summer Program for our area super multilingual students (AKA ELLs). Students 14 years and older are welcome to attend this online English-only intensive program.

Kings Organizing Against Racism
A group of students at Kings High School has organized a new club called KOAR, Knights Organized Against Racism.

The club recently created a video that corresponded to a bias survey that was introduced during Advisory in March. The survey was given to find out which biases we hold.

They have created a t-shirt fundraiser to support the Urban League of Greater Southwestern Ohio. They need to sell a minimum of 50 t-shirts but have raised over $200 in less than 24 hours!

There will be a KOAR t-shirt day across the district beginning next school year! Support our Diversity and Inclusion initiative and get your KOAR t-shirt today!
Immunization Requirements for 7th & 12th Grade
shot_preparation.jpg
Students entering 7th grade will need to have one dose of meningococcal (MCV4) vaccine and one dose of the Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, and acellular pertussis) vaccine.

Students entering 12th grade will need to have a second dose of the meningococcal vaccine. The second dose must be administered on or after the 16th birthday. If the first dose of meningococcal vaccine was administered after the 16th birthday, a second dose is not required.

Ohio law allows a 14-day grace period for the beginning of the school year. If a student does not obtain the required vaccinations and provide written documentation (immunization record) or an exemption note to the school, the school will exclude that student on the 15th day of the 2021/2022 school year
until the immunization requirement is fulfilled.

Your child may have already received this vaccine at his/her most recent check-up. If not, please schedule an appointment with your primary health care provider. In addition, the Warren County Health Department provides a variety of clinic hours offering vaccinations at a low cost. Their number is 513-695-1468.

Please send updated vaccination records that reflect that these requirements have been met to your child’s school nurse.

Kings High School Presents...
Support the Kings High School Theatre Department by attending their next show, Songs for a New World, April 29 & 30 and May 1.

One of the characters in Songs for a New World says, "I don't want to philosophize. I just want to tell a story." And that line describes Songs for a New World perfectly; in fact, it tells a whole collection of stories.

Every song in the show is essentially about the same thing: those moments in life when everything seems perfect and then suddenly disaster strikes, in the form of the loss of a job, an unexpected pregnancy, the death of a loved one, the end of a marriage, imprisonment, even suicide. But it’s even more about surviving those moments. It's about the way we regroup and figure out how to survive in a new set of circumstances – a new world – even against seemingly overwhelming odds.

Shows are on April 29 & 30 at 7:00 p.m. and May 1 at 2:00 and 7:00 p.m. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, there are only a limited amount of tickets available for purchase at www.kingstheatre.net/tickets. Get yours today!
