KHS Ranked by U.S. News & World Report
|
|
U.S. News & World Report released their 2021 edition of Best High Schools this week. Kings High School earned a high National and metro-area ranking in the top 5% of the Nation!
This year's numerical ranking includes nearly 18,000 public high schools nationwide and 683 in Ohio. KHS ranked #795 in the Nation, 32nd in Ohio, and #11 in the Cincy Metro Area.
The methodology used for this year's ranking focused on six factors: college readiness, reading and math proficiency, reading and math performance, underserved student performance, college curriculum breadth, and graduation rates.
The data used in this edition is from the 2018-2019 academic school year and, therefore, was not affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Earning such a ranking is impressive and all District teachers should be proud of this award for creating a learning environment that fosters this success. Kings Superintendent, Tim Ackermann said, " It's an honor that our high school continues to place among the best in the state and the nation. This recognition by the U.S. News and World Report is a reflection of our entire school community's commitment to education and doing what is best for kids every day. We are so proud of our students and staff."

Kings High School Presents...
|
|
Support the Kings High School Theatre Department by attending their next show, Songs for a New World, April & 30 and May 1.
One of the characters in Songs for a New World says, "I don't want to philosophize. I just want to tell a story." And that line describes Songs for a New World perfectly; in fact, it tells a whole collection of stories.
Every song in the show is essentially about the same thing: those moments in life when everything seems perfect and then suddenly disaster strikes, in the form of the loss of a job, an unexpected pregnancy, the death of a loved one, the end of a marriage, imprisonment, even suicide. But it’s even more about surviving those moments. It's about the way we regroup and figure out how to survive in a new set of circumstances – a new world – even against seemingly overwhelming odds.
Shows are on April 30 at 7:00 p.m. and May 1 at 2:00 and 7:00 p.m. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, there are only a limited amount of tickets available for purchase at www.kingstheatre.net/tickets. Get yours today!

|
|
A BIG congratulations to our Kings Drumline and Winterguard groups for making it to WGI World Finals this 2021 season!
With COVID came many changes to these indoor Sports of the Arts, but our dedicated staff and students worked through the challenges and capped off their seasons with this virtual competition that included competitors from all over the world.
Kings Drumline was among the Top 15 groups in their class, advancing them to Finals, where they scored excellent box scores across the board!
The seven-person Kings Winterguard was among the Top 10 Small Ensemble groups in the world, advancing them to Finals where they rated “Expert” (2nd highest rating).
Lastly, three Winterguard Soloists (Pictured above); Rifle soloist - Emilia Fantini; Sabre soloist - Rayna Quentin; and Flag soloist - Mckenzie Blair achieved the rating of “Expert” in their categories.
The Drumline and Winterguard got together last Sunday to watch the results come in and cheer each other on.
If you know a student who may be interested in becoming a part of this Award-Winning Band Program, please encourage them to contact Brian McDonough at bmcdonough@kingslocal.net by April 30.

KHS Work Study Celebration
|
|
Kings High School Work Study students were celebrated on April 29 for their accomplishments this school year.
The work-study students performed tasks at Kings High School in the cafeteria as well as taking attendance to the front office. Students shredded documents and helped with the recycling team. Students also ran the "K-Night Dog Bones" business, which donated some of the dog bones to the Warren County Animal Shelter. Since students were not able to work in the community this year due to COVID restrictions, community businesses and organizations, such as Rivers Crossing Community Church, the Loveland Food Pantry, and Le Peep Restaurant, brought the work to the students.
Denice Rutkousky, Kings High School Intervention Specialist said, "Our work-study program assists the growth of our students' skills needed for employment and independence. We would like to thank all of our partners at Kings and in the community for their support. They are so very important to our students' success now and into the future."
Congratulations on a job well done to Brayden Bebout, Ethan Cook, Jarret Coronado Quentin, Misha Garibian, Mackenzie, Garner, Collin Hacker, Madonna Jusko, Ryan Koch, Ella Kuehnle, Josh Rose, Aiden Stromberg, and Olivia Tyra.

Kings High School Hope Squad celebrated Hope Week this week. Each day of the week had a theme such as Music Monday, Tired Tuesday, Workout Wednesday, Thoughtful Thursday, and Friend Friday.
Students wrote appreciative notes and thank you cards to someone at school or to hand to someone outside of school. They wore reds, pinks, and yellows to symbolize friendship and love.
KHS Hope Squad advisor, Lisa DeBord said, "The big message to students and parents this year was, end the stigma surrounding mental health. It’s OK to not be OK, and the importance of talking to someone you trust."
We are proud of our students who are supporting fellow students who may be struggling.

The students in Kelly Shields' Advanced Placement Digital Media Arts class at Kings High School participated in the Artist Reaching Classroom program with the Taft Art Museum again this year.
The Taft Museum of Arts Artists Reaching Classrooms program (ARC) is a great way to enrich your curriculum and expand your students’ experience of the arts. All aspects of the program, including buses for field trips, are offered to participating schools free of charge.
ARC immerses high school art students in Cincinnati’s visual arts community and exposes them to careers in the arts. Professional artists visit classrooms to talk with the students about both the creative and practical aspects of a career in art. The program includes opportunities to visit an artist’s studio, such as a painter’s atelier, a glassworks, or a fine arts pressworks.

For the first time, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is asking consumers, not internet service providers, about their internet experience. Now is the chance for your families to be heard.
If you or someone you know has been struggling with internet connectivity from home, whether it’s inaccessible, unaffordable, or unreliable, please reach out to the FCC to share your story through this brief 2-minute survey.
The FCC will use this data to improve their broadband availability maps. These maps will help internet service providers and governments understand where in Ohio internet service is most urgently needed and decide future funding of broadband services.
Families struggling with internet connectivity, and therefore unable to access the online survey, can call the Connectivity Champions for help! Connectivity Champions are helping families complete the online survey over the phone at 844-K12-OHIO.
The pandemic exposed how important the internet is as a daily function of the 21st-century economy. Medical, educational, consumerism, information—the internet impacts everyday life. The Connectivity Champions would like to see all Ohioans connected to the internet. Now is Ohio’s time to speak up!
