KHS Student Selected for Rain Barrel Project
|
|
Kings High School Senior, Kaleigh Cooke has been selected as an artist for the 2021 Rain Barrel Art Project by the Regional Storm Water Collaborative, popularly known as savelocalwaters.org,
The Rain Barrel Art Project, which is hosted by the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden is a joint effort to educate the community about water conservation and pollution caused by stormwater runoff.
The Rain Barrel Art Project was created to promote the use of rain barrels throughout the Ohio River Valley area via an entertaining yet educational medium. Though rain barrels conserve water and save money, people are less likely to use them given their dull appearance. SaveLocalWaters.org believes that producing beautiful artistic rain barrels will make them more desirable and increase public interest.
The Regional Storm Water Collaborative created savelocalwaters.org to utilize mass media and shared resources in order to better raise awareness concerning environmental quality issues in the Ohio River Valley.
Kaleigh presented her work in painting rain barrels for Save Local Waters for her community service presentation on Thursday night. Kaleigh has been a part of painting nine rain barrels while a student at Kings.

An important update from Social Emotional Health Coordinator, Kim Sellers.
Hello Parents and Caregivers:
A new wave of synthetic nicotine products is emerging on the market, raising questions as youth vaping continues at epidemic levels. These disposable e-cigarettes (Puff Bar) and oral nicotine products include Bidi Pouches, NIIN (short for "nicotine innovated") and Rush, and contain synthetic materials which can actually be more addicting to young people.
This article from Truth Initiative shares some important information parents need to know about synthetic nicotine. Claims made by these companies can be very misleading.
