Today was the last day of regular instruction for the 2019-2020 school year. It didn't end the way we all would have liked, but it was still a great year of learning!

Thank you to our Knight Nation for supporting us this year. We wish our staff, students, and families a great Summer Break! #KingsStrong
Update on the Coronavirus
All assignments and work for grades K-11 must be completed by May 21.

We will be holding a district-wide material pickup and textbook drop off on May 20. You should have received information about pickup times, etc. from your building principal.

Remember:
  • Campus remains closed
  • During this time, access to all facilities, including athletic fields, will be restricted for staff, students, parents, and community members.
  • Only essential operational staff members will be allowed to access our facilities to continue to provide food and services to our students who need those resources.

Please continue to monitor the District website and access our COVID-19 webpage for information on important resources. We will continue to keep you updated by our School Messenger system and also utilize our social media channels.

For up-to-date information on COVID-19 visit the CDC website .
FREE Feeding Program
The FREE Feeding program will continue every Monday (Except 5/25 - moved to 5/26 in observance of Memorial Day) through June 15. This program is for all children 18 and under, not just for those on free or reduced meals. Each student will receive 5 breakfasts and 5 lunches at NO COST to the parent.

There are two locations available for food pickup; Joshua's Place or Columbia Intermediate School. Both locations will hold pickup from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m.

To date, Kings Food Service and their volunteers have distributed 42,804 meals to our community! We will continue to communicate additional dates and locations for summer.

Thank you to the Kings Food Service Department and Kings Staff volunteers for feeding our community! #KingsStrong
Teachers of the Year
Congratulations to South Lebanon Elementary 4th grade teacher, Heather Clements , and Kings Preschool Intervention Specialist, Theresa Frazier who have been named winners of this year’s Project Excellence Award, sponsored by the Area Progress Council of Warren County.

Every year, the APC seeks to honor two innovative or excellent teachers from each Warren County school. Community members and staff are encouraged to nominate teachers for these awards. Mrs. Clements and Mrs. Frazier will be honored at the 33rd annual APC recognition banquet that will be held at a later date due to COVID-10.

Mrs. Frazier, an Intervention Specialist, has taught at Kings her whole career; 15 years. The first nine years at SLE and the past six at Kings Preschool.

Mrs. Clements has been teaching for 21 years. For the past 8 years, she has taught in Kings, first as an Intervention Specialist, and now as a 4th-grade teacher at SLE.

The Area Progress Council – a countywide private business organization – started Project Excellence in 1988 as a way to honor and recognize excellent educators. APC solicited funds to create an over $1 million endowment for this recognition program. Since its inception, Project Excellence has honored over 650 educators and awarded $500,000. This year's honorees will be given $500 for personal use and $250 to their district for a classroom or district-wide project.

Congratulations on this great honor, ladies!

It's been an exciting week at Kings High School with lots of celebrations for the Class of 2020. Free Outdoor Summer Challenge
Warren County Park District Staff Naturalist and Kings Resident, Shannon Pennington wanted to share about free educational nature programs over the summer for Warren County Residents.

One outreach program is the #WCPD100HoursOutside  Summer Challenge, which encourages kids to get outside; it's similar to the library summer reading programs but kids track the time they spend outside. Once they reach 100 hours, they earn prizes.

This summer they will also be doing a  county-wide BioBlitz , encouraging residents of all ages to use the iNaturalist app to identify plants and animals in our community. As a citizen science project, it will provide valuable information to professional scientists, and is a potential volunteer opportunity for high school students who are looking for  community service  hours. There are also options for students to do park clean-ups to earn volunteer hours.

Kings Board of Education May Meeting
The Kings Board of Education May Work Session will take place virtually on Tuesday, May 19.

The Kings Local Board of Education values its engagement with the community and believes that providing an opportunity for public comment during Regular Board Meetings supports that engagement and provides transparency. Though providing an opportunity for public comment is not a requirement, we would like to continue this practice even while meeting virtually.

In the spirit of maintaining this opportunity for our public to participate in these virtual school board meetings, interested persons may sign-up to speak one hour prior to the start of the meeting. Click here for more information.
