Soldier Returns Home to Surprise KHS Grad
Kings High School Senior, Grace Macke received a surprise of a lifetime at graduation last Sunday when her dad, Master Sgt. Drew Macke showed up when he was supposed to be in the Middle East.
Sgt. Macke was deployed 6 months ago with the U.S. Air Force. Grace didn't think he would be able to come home for graduation. But, thanks to the U.S. Air Force and some help from the Kings High School Administration, Drew made it home.
Grace was called to the stage prior to the graduation ceremony along with her family. She thought she would be viewing a video message from her dad, but instead, he came onto the stage to surprise her.
It was a heartwarming experience for those in attendance. We thank Sgt. Macke for his service.

JFB Art Celebrates Japan's Children's Day
The Art students in Laura Acierno's classes at J.F. Burns Elementary celebrated Kodomo no hi, Japan's Children's Day on May 5.
On this day, children are respected and honored for their individual strengths and happiness is wished upon them. A tradition to celebrate children on this day, cloth carp streamers (Koinobori) are flown on poles outside of public buildings and private houses to bring good fortune to the children inside.
Mrs. Acierno's students created their own Koinobori to display at J.F. Burns. A beautiful showcase filled with the student's work is in celebration of the 4th grade Art students as they head to Columbia Intermediate next year.

Head's UP - Road Closure Ahead
Construction of the bridge on U.S. Route 22 over the Little Miami River will close U.S. 22 to motorists beginning on Monday, June 7 for up to 50 days.
This closure could significantly impact traffic on other local routes, especially in Landen and Maineville. The current detours will include Columbia Road, Western Row Road, I-71, and S.R. 48.
Due to anticipated increased traffic volumes on Old 3C Highway and other local routes, the left-turn movements at Socialville-Foster Road and Old 3C Highway and at Foster-Maineville Road and Old 3C will be prohibited. In addition, the Little Miami Scenic Trail will be closed where it crosses Old 3C Highway, although the trail will be open to the north and to the south of Old 3C. These changes are being implemented to ensure safety and minimize the overall impact on motorists, pedestrians, and bicyclists.
