Back to School Start Days/Dates
Now that the 2020-2021 school year is complete, we have already started planning for next school year!

If you remember, last year we started with a "slow start" where we brought smaller groups of students in at a time so we could go over COVID-19 protocols and give our students and staff the opportunity to begin to form relationships.

We received feedback from our teachers who said that they really appreciated the opportunity to begin forming relationships with students in a smaller group.

We will be staggering the start of the 2021-2022 school year as you see below. **Please note: In last week's Knight Nation News, the building start times were incorrect. Below are the correct starting times.
COVID Numbers
What a year! The COVID-19 pandemic sure threw us all for a loop. We are thankful that we were able to stay in school, in-person all year long.

May saw our lowest COVID positive and quarantine numbers. Below is a cumulative report of positive cases and quarantines for the school year. We have so much to be grateful for and are so proud of our students and staff who worked so hard in a time of so many unknowns. We did it together!

We want to give a special shout-out to Kings Manager of School Business Affairs, Matt Luecke, Contact Tracing Nurse, Christy Salek, our building nursing staff, principals, assistant principals, counseling staff, and building secretaries who, together, gracefully navigated over 2,400 positive cases and quarantines! THANK YOU!!

KME 4th Grade Choir
Kings Mills Elementary Music teacher, Matt Jenkins recently collaborated with his in-person and virtual students to create a recorded version of the school song, "KME is the Place to Be."

The project was created completely remotely using a web-based audio recording tool called Soundtrap. Each student recorded themselves into the project using their own phone, tablet, or computer. Once all students had submitted their recordings, Mr. Jenkins did some final editing and added a Google Slides presentation to go along with the audio.

KME Virtual Chorus members: Epie Ajebe, Keaton Collins (on piano), Braelon Gause, Harper McClung, Molly Maney, Peyton Moody, Lindsay Rubel, andJacob Wise.

Last Day of School
We will miss you, Knights! Have a great summer!
FREE Summer Meal Plan
The Kings Local School District will be participating in a FREE Summer Food Service Meal Program. The program will provide lunches to children free of charge regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, disability, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service. Children between 1 and 18 years of age are eligible for free meals. Youth ages 19-21 that have a mental or physical disability (as determined by state or local education agency) and who participate during the school year in a public or private nonprofit school program are also eligible to receive free meals.

This year, there are two options available; a "to-go" option and and "dine-in" option. Additionally, there are 2 locations for families to choose from based on the location most convenient for them.

Immunization Requirements for 7th & 12th Grade
shot_preparation.jpg
If you have a student entering either 7th or 12th grade, you will need to make sure their vaccinations are up-to-date prior to school.

Students entering 7th grade will need to have one dose of meningococcal (MCV4) vaccine and one dose of the Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, and acellular pertussis) vaccine.

Students entering 12th grade will need to have a second dose of the meningococcal vaccine. The second dose must be administered on or after the 16th birthday. If the first dose of the meningococcal vaccine was administered after the 16th birthday, a second dose is not required.

Head's UP - Road Closure Ahead
Construction of the bridge on U.S. Route 22 over the Little Miami River will close U.S. 22 to motorists beginning on Monday, June 7 for up to 50 days.

This closure could significantly impact traffic on other local routes, especially in Landen and Maineville. The current detours will include Columbia Road, Western Row Road, I-71, and S.R. 48.

Summer Reading Programs
Don't let your child get the Summer Slide! Numerous studies show that kids who don't read during summer break actually slip in reading ability by the time autumn rolls around.

We have provided you with some Summer Reading Programs in our area to help your students. Thank you for supporting your student to prevent the Summer Slide!
Kings Color Guard Summer Camps
The award-winning Kings Color Guard is hosting its annual Color Guard Camps.

Boys and girls in grades K-6 are invited to come and learn and spin from the best!

There are two opportunities for camps; Saturday, June 12, and Saturday, July 10.

These camps cost $15 for one session or $20 if signed up for both sessions. Every child will receive a flag to take home.
