Pre-K-6 Mask Requirement
Thank you to our parents for your support of the new masking requirement for students in preschool through 6th grade. Remember, we STRONGLY RECOMMEND masks for students and staff in grades 7-12.

Our quarantine numbers increased dramatically from last Friday. Wearing a mask will offer students and staff the opportunity to stay in school.

Quarantine is not necessary for students and adults possibly exposed to COVID-19 in K-12 school settings, regardless of vaccination status, if ALL of the following prevention measures have been in place:
  • Masking for students and staff (regardless of vaccination status).
  • Physical distancing is maximized (at least 3 feet between students).
  • Documented COVID-19 prevention policies (e.g., identification of individuals experiencing symptoms, strategies to increase ventilation, protocols for cleaning, etc.).

If your child wears a mask or is vaccinated, they will not be quarantined if determined to be a close contact. Wearing a mask may significantly reduce the number of students quarantined and keep our students learning in person.

Community Learning Series
The next Community Learning Series will take place on Thursday, November 4, 2021, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the KJH Multipurpose Room. The topic is Street Smart Ohio: Drug Education.

This program is a must-attend for any parent or those working with youth. It is a highly informative and very engaging drug education training that will provide current and up-to-date narcotics information on trends, terminology, paraphernalia, and more.

Due to space and contact tracing constraints, please click here to reserve your spot.
Welcome Class of 2034
We welcomed our Kindergarteners this week! The Kings Class of 2034 is 366 students strong.

Pictured is Kings School Resource Officer, Trent Barker posing for a picture with his new kindergartner, Stella on the first day of school.

We hope our Kindergarteners have a great year!

*We mistakenly identified Officer Barker in the August 6 edition of Knight Nation News. We apologize for the error.
Fun in Preschool
The students in Theresa Frazier's preschool classes celebrated the first week of preschool by making hats. Mrs. Frazier said, "So thankful for the opportunity to learn together and in person!"
Alumni Update
The Kings High School Workforce Initiative is a program that includes a collaboration with United Way of Warren County and local businesses to help develop students who plan to enter the workforce immediately after graduation, or students who do go to college but with the goal of bringing them back to Warren County to work.

The pilot program began in November of 2017 and since the full launch of the program in September 2018, hundreds of students from Warren County high schools have been a part of the program developing soft skills that are essential in the workplace, such as the importance of career effective communication, having a positive attitude, teamwork, work ethics, and so much more. They have also worked on job-seeking skills such as completing applications and interviewing. Students have developed personal resumes, know how to write a cover letter, a follow-up letter, and how to prepare for a professional interview.

We are pleased to hear about some Kings alumni who have had success from the program.

Two 2021 Kings High School graduates, Adrian Rezo and Alex Williams started working part-time for E-BEAM in the Spring of 2021 before graduation. Both were accepted into a 32-month career full-funded pathway in which they have a full-time job with benefits at E-BEAM.

Kaylee Dane has been enrolled/admitted to Sinclair College and will start taking classes this fall. Her education will be fully funded, and the goal is to help Kaylee get a job at Atrium Health or another desired location during her schooling or upon graduation. She will have the option to work during school or wait until she completes her studies without losing funding for schooling.

Jason Clark has enrolled in Sinclair's IT Career Pathway Work-Study Program. He is eligible to get his IT degree fully funded while working part-time in a cybersecurity/IT role.

"These stories are a testament to the student's hard work pushing through obstacles and the staff at Kings," said Riley O'Grady, Warren County High School Workforce Initiative Leader.
CIS Student Receives Girl Scout Award
Congratulations to Columbia Intermediate School 6th grader, Briella Chambers for receiving the Bronze Award from the Girl Scouts of Western Ohio.

Briella, a member of Girl Scout Troop 45972 spent time this month making sure the front of CIS looked even more welcoming before students and staff returned to school.

She painted 30 rocks with fun images and inspiring messages and weeded the front entrance of CIS with the help of her family, mother Kim, father Jeff, and sister Nicki. Her work was completed just in time for the Sweets With the Supe event for families.

Because of her work, she earned the Bronze Award which is the highest award a 5th or 6th grader can earn through Girl Scouting. Thank you for making a difference, Briella. #KingsStrong

Free Books for Children Birth to Age 5
The Ohio Governor's Imagination Library is a program that provides a free book each month for children from birth to age 5. Through a partnership with Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, the program promotes literacy for children starting at birth.

Research has shown that a child with 25 books in their home completes an average of two additional years of schooling compared to their peers without books in their home. The goal of the program is that every kindergartner begins school with 60 books in their home.

So far, the Warren County Imagination Library has served 8,373 eligible children, or 66.4% of the population between birth and turning five in Warren County. There are currently 6,423 active readers or 50.9% of the eligible children between birth and turning five.

Kings/Hoxworth Blood Drive
Our first Kings/Hoxworth Blood Drive of the 2021-2022 school year is coming up on Wednesday, September 15 from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The blood donation buses will be parked on the south end of the high school/junior high campus, just outside the junior high multipurpose/orchestra room. All are welcome to donate.

This year, we will honor our colleague, Sheryl Kuritar, who was a constant donor at our blood drives. She selflessly donated blood throughout the 20 years that we have been hosting the Kings/Hoxworth Blood Drives. She will be sorely missed.

Lastly, here is the link to donate: BLOOD DRIVE
