Outdoor Hand Washing Station at SLE
South Lebanon Elementary students will find something new outside at the playground when they arrive next week!

Thinking about the challenges of COVID-19, South Lebanon Elementary third grade Teacher, Rachel Manley and her Engineer father, Rick Merritt set out to create an outdoor hand washing station. When Mrs. Manley told him of her dilemma of trying to get 60 children back into school from recess, wash their hands, and get to the cafeteria for lunch in 15 minutes with only one sink in her classroom, they got to work.

The brainstorming began and Mrs. Manley, who had a prior career as a Research and Development Engineer, had three things in mind while creating the project: safety, efficiency, and cost.

Through trial and error, they came up with a design that puts out just the right amount of water and drains so the students don't get wet. Mrs. Manley said, "I am committed to making this school year as safe as possible for our students and this is one example of finding innovative ways to enable us to stay in school as long as we can."

Thanks Mrs. Manley and Mr. Merritt for your innovative and creative project that will make a difference and help stop the spread of germs! #KINGSSTRONG
