Kings COVID-19 Data Reporting Requirement |
|
The Ohio Department of Health (ODH) and Governor DeWine issued a new general health order that provides mandatory requirements for school operations and reporting of COVID-19 data for both parents and school officials.
Below is a snapshot for Kings for this week. This document will be updated weekly and can be found on the Coronavirus page on the Kings website.
Parents or guardians of students, and school staff, are strongly encouraged to provide notice of a positive case diagnosis within 24 hours. Parents should call their student's school building and speak to the building nurse. The Kings School District employs a designated COVID-19 Contact Tracer to monitor quarantines and positive test results. This tracking system will be monitored daily for updated reporting on COVID-19 cases.
Parents are also encouraged to notify the District of testing due to suspected cases of COVID-19, regardless of the result. Efficient contact tracing involves both notification and timing of close contacts with the child or adult who may be considered a suspected case. If your child is tested, please keep them home from school until you receive results.
Please continue to perform a daily health assessment on your student before coming to school. You can utilize this Decision Tree to help decide if you should send your child to school.

KHS Students Participate in 9/11 Ceremony |
|
Last Friday on September 11, the annual 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony took place on the lawn in front of Lebanon’s City Hall building.
This is an annual ceremony spearheaded by community member, Robin Kiley, to remember this day in our nation’s history, inspire hope, and honor our local first responders.
In the past years, the Remembrance has drawn a large gathering featuring nationally renowned speakers. This year, due to the pandemic, it was held virtually with just a few social distanced guests, including members of Kings High School START club.
The START Club was founded last year by Maddie LoPresti and Jules Fink under the direction of KHS teacher, Carol Hardesty. START, "Students Taking Active Roles Together," is a student-led club with a mission of encouraging active leadership through service projects, with an emphasis on inclusion and building community relationships.
Members of the club which also includes Leah Malburg and Jenna Donile spent time creating art to honor first responders during the ceremony. Their artwork was chosen to be featured as a backdrop for the virtual ceremony this year.
Mrs. King’s AP Government students also submitted poems that were read during the ceremony. "We are blessed to have such an inspiring school as Kings Local High School participating with us on this meaningful day of Remembrance," said Kiley.

Three Kings Students Selected for CYSO |
|
Congratulations to the three Kings Schools students selected to join the Cincinnati Symphony Youth Orchestra (CYSO)! The students are pictured below L-R: Jenna Millecker, Declan Alford, and Renee Perpignan. Jenna and Renee were selected for the Philharmonic Orchestra and Declan was selected for the Concert Orchestra.
Kings Orchestra parent, Missy Alford said, "This speaks very highly of the Kings Music Program, as well as Mrs. Southern and Mr. Weber."
The Cincinnati Symphony Youth Orchestra (CSYO) is comprised of three ensembles: the top tier CSYO Philharmonic, CSYO Concert Orchestra, and CSYO Nouveau Chamber Players. These talented student musicians represent over 30 high schools in Southwestern Ohio, Southeastern Indiana, and Northern Kentucky. The CSYO holds auditions once per year in August. Students who are selected are required to attend weekly rehearsals and will perform in three concerts.

Parents had difficult decisions to make this summer about whether or not to send their students back to school in the Fall for a variety of reasons. Approximately 26% of our students are learning online this semester. Our online teachers are trying to find ways to help our online students feel connected to their schools and friends.
Columbia Intermediate School 6th grade Online Knight teacher, Lynn Wagner wanted to make sure her Online Knights were still connected to our In-Person Knights so she created "Field Trip Friday."
Today, she "took" her Online Knights into the CIS cafeteria so they could connect with their friends at school. "We had a blast!," she said. Both the Online Knights and the In-Person Knights were smiling and waving. Wagner said, "My kids said they can't wait until next Friday's Field Trip!"
We can't wait for all of our Knights to back learning together inside our buildings!

A new tradition started for Kings High School Seniors this year. They were given the opportunity to paint their parking spaces in the KHS parking lot.
This is a common practice among area high schools.This year's senior class presented a proposal to the KHS Administration to create a fundraiser in exchange to paint their parking spaces. The money raised will be will be used by the KHS PTO for student enrichment.
We have some really creative students. Take a drive by this weekend to see their amazing work!

Masks Can't Hide Our Character! |
|
Wearing masks at school have definitely presented some challenges for both students and staff. However, our students are doing an OUTSTANDING job with wearing their masks!
Fourth graders in Mrs. Clements and Mrs. Westley's classes at South Lebanon Elementary showed us that our masks may hide our smiles, but they can't hide our character!

Social & Emotional Update |

Kings Social Emotional Coordinator, Kim Sellers is asking for parent feedback.
We will be sending out a Parent Climate Survey on September 28. The purpose of this survey is to determine the knowledge of mental health resources and feelings about the climate at your student's school. The results of this survey will be used to improve the efforts in the Kings Local School District to enhance student mental health. The survey is being conducted by 1N5 and is part of ongoing work we will be doing with them to enhance the mental health programming at the schools.
The survey will take approximately 15 minutes and is completely anonymous. Responses cannot be tracked to individuals. Your participation is completely voluntary, however we would greatly appreciate your input! Please watch your email on September 28 for the survey to arrive.

September is Suicide Prevention Month. Research shows that chronic loneliness, which many of us are feeling these days with stay-at-home orders - can translate to poor sleep, high blood pressure, greater risk of suicidal ideation, and even alcohol and drug use. Depression and anxiety have also increased in the months since the pandemic began. Know the signs and symptoms of mental health issues so that you can seek help for you or someone you care about.

Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the contributions and importance of the Hispanics and Latinos to the United States and those American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America, and South America.
The Hispanic Heritage observance began in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period starting on September 15 and ending on October 15. It was enacted into law on August 17, 1988, on the approval of Public Law 100-402.

The Kings Art Program is dedicated to spreading kindness through art for adults and children of all ages.
The first activity of the year is to create a lollipop flower pot. During this free art night, supply bags will be sent home with any student in the Kings School District containing enough supplies for the entire family to have the opportunity to paint a flower pot and create lollipop flowers.

25th Annual Homecoming 5K (VIRTUAL) |

Join us for the Kings Homecoming Virtual 5k! Support Kings Cross Country by participating in this year's virtual race! Run or walk on your own, with friends or with family, and submit your time.
The race window is open from Saturday, September 25 to Sunday, October 4. We look forward to celebrating those personal bests. Take photos of yourself running the event and share by uploading to the event site. T-shirts and awards will continue to be a part of participation.
