Mask Up to Stay in School
|
|
Please remember, we are still STRONGLY RECOMMENDING masks for students and staff in grades 7-12.
We have seen our positive cases and quarantines increase again this week. If your child wears a mask or is vaccinated, they will not be quarantined if determined to be a close contact. Wearing a mask may significantly reduce the number of students quarantined and keep our students learning in person.
As we notified parents this week, we are waiting for final details on the new Warren County Schools Quarantine Pilot Program. The pilot will utilize a testing protocol at school and will allow district officials to make decisions based on more objective data in order to keep healthy students in school and sick students at home.
The pilot program will utilize qualified nurses and medical assistants. The Warren County Educational Service Center will be hiring for the positions that will be used in all Warren County schools. If you or someone you know are interested in these positions click here for more information.
Below is this week's COVID-19 Dashboard.

JFB Receives Renewal on Purple Star Designation
|
|
Congratulations to J.F. Burns Elementary School who has received a three-year renewal on their Purple Star Designation by the Ohio Department of Education. The Purple Star Award for military-friendly schools recognizes schools that demonstrate a major commitment to students and families connected to our nation’s military. Only 68 schools will be honored this year.
JFB initially completed an application in 2018 that included sending pictures of what activities have taken place at JFB to honor Veterans and their families. The school is very military-friendly. They have several events throughout each year that includes a Veteran's Day parade with nearly 100 Veterans participating, a military care package drive where they send care packages to those currently serving on active duty or attending military academies, and a candy drive where they collect candy to send to the Yellow Ribbon Support Center.
A school is honored with the Purple Star Award if it completes all of the required Military friendly initiatives, plus one optional activity. The Purple Star Advisory Board, formed by the Ohio Department of Education, Higher Education, Veterans Services, and the Adjutant General, helps decide a school’s eligibility for the award. Schools are eligible for renewal every three years.

KHS Cheer Sponsors Military Night Dinner
|
|
Next Friday, September 10 is Military Night at the Castle. The Kings Knights Football Team takes on Anderson with kickoff at 7:00 p.m. Prior to kickoff, the Kings Athletic Department will be recognizing Veterans.
All active military and Veterans will get one free admission into the game. Please show your ID at the gate. We would like to recognize and honor this group prior to the game. If the military members (families welcome) would join us at approximately 6:30 pm on the track near the scoreboard we will bring them onto the field for recognition at 6:40 pm. If you know someone who would like to be a part of the pregame recognition please click here.
Prior to the game, don't miss Kings High School Cheerleader's 6th Annual Military Appreciation Night Dinner. All of the fun takes place on Friday, September 10 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. in the Kings Junior High Cafeteria.
This is a night where we come together to honor Veterans and help support the Yellow Ribbon Support Center before the Knights football game. Dinner this year is sponsored by City Barbeque and tickets can be purchased from any high school or junior high cheerleader for $10 general public, $5 EMT, Fire & Police, and the meal is free for Veterans.
This year there will be an amazing raffle and silent auction baskets during the dinner with 100% of proceeds being donated to the Yellow Ribbon Support Center that was started in Cincinnati to send care packages to military personnel overseas.
Come have dinner to support our cheerleaders and the Yellow Ribbon Support Center and bid on a basket or two.

Kings/Hoxworth Blood Drive
|
|
Our first Kings/Hoxworth Blood Drive of the 2021-2022 school year is coming up on Wednesday, September 15 from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The blood donation buses will be parked on the south end of the high school/junior high campus, just outside the junior high multipurpose/orchestra room. All are welcome to donate.
This year, we will honor our colleague, Sheryl Kuritar, who was a constant donor at our blood drives. She selflessly donated blood throughout the 20 years that we have been hosting the Kings/Hoxworth Blood Drives. She will be sorely missed.

Are You Eligible for Child Tax Credit?
|
|
The Internal Revenue System is reaching out to America’s school districts to help them spread the word on the 2021 Advance Child Tax Credit payments, which could be up to $1,800 per qualifying child. These payments are made automatically to taxpayers who qualified on their 2020 tax returns.
Their current outreach efforts are focused on low-income families who may not be required to file tax returns. If you are not in their system, they can't help you financially. They have developed a tool that can not only help get these families the advance payments but also help them get missed Economic Impact Payments (EIP). This could amount to over $14,000 for a family of 2 adults and 2 children who may be struggling to make ends meet.

Youth Basketball Registration
|
|
Attention all 2nd - 6th-grade girls and boys interested in playing basketball.
Registration is still happening! If you have not yet registered your child for the upcoming basketball season you can sign them up on our website (www.kbahoops.org). Click on the registration banner and follow the instructions.
The fee is $170 registration will officially close ‪on 9/15. Please register your child timely if they plan to play this season so you can take advantage of the lower registration fee. Included in the fee again this year will be a full uniform and shooting shirt.
When you are registering you will notice that we once again have a donation section for those that would like to contribute a little extra to our scholarship fund. These funds are used to pay registration fees for children of families that can't afford to pay. Every little bit helps and KBA prides itself on never turning away a kid for financial reasons. Thanks in advance for your generosity and if you are personally in need of a scholarship for your child then please let us know.
A key date that you will need to be aware of for 3rd-6th graders is Saturday, September 18 at KJH and KHS will be our assessments that will determine who is invited back for competitive team tryouts. We need everyone to attend if possible - even kids that are planning to just play on a rec team. This allows us to provide feedback to coaches and hopefully split the teams up appropriately.
