Please Support DNMM During Give Local

Give Local is just a few days away on May 7th, and this year we are asking everyone in our network to donate just $5. This small contribution can really add up and allow us to make a big impact in our community! Your $5 can help us teach people independent living skills, provide in-home support, or transition someone from a nursing facility back home.

Disability Network Mid-Michigan serves the following twelve counties, and your donation can help someone in YOUR community: Alcona, Arenac, Bay, Clare, Gladwin, Gratiot, Iosco, Isabella, Midland, Ogemaw, Roscommon, and Saginaw.

If everyone pitches in, we can make 2024 a year of change!

May is Mental Health Awareness Month

Disability Network Mid-Michigan supports the idea that all people are deserving of support, resources, fulfillment, and a community that cares – no matter your abilities or where you are in your journey. Join us this month in normalizing the practice of taking moments to prioritize mental health care without guilt or shame.

If you think you may be experiencing symptoms of a mental health condition and are unsure of where to start, take a free and private mental health test at mhascreening.org.

Contact DNMM for mental health resources and information at 989-835-4041 or email info@dnmm.org.

Did you know you can call or text 988 or chat at 988lifeline.org for yourself or if you are worried about a loved one who may need crisis support? 988 can get you in touch with a trained counselor who can help you if you're experiencing mental health-related distress, such as

  • Thoughts of suicide
  • Mental health or substance use crisis, or
  • Any other kind of emotional distress

The 988 Lifeline provides help, hope, and healing for thousands of people every day.

Get Help with Access to Medical Equipment

Are you in need of medical equipment on a budget? Check out these resources:

Great Lakes Loan Closets helps Michigan residents find organizations that lend medical equipment for minimal or no cost. Click here and select your county to find an organization near you.

Disability Network Mid-Michigan applauds these organizations for helping people access the medical equipment they need and removing barriers for people without insurance or who can’t afford steep copays or deductibles.

World MS Awareness Day

May 30th is World MS Awareness Day, and Disability Network Mid-Michigan wants to raise awareness and empower people affected by MS to live their best lives. The goal is to help build a caring community that supports people diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and breaks down social barriers that leave people feeling lonely and socially isolated.

MS is one of the most common diseases of the central nervous system. It disrupts the flow of information within the brain and between the brain and body. A person’s experience with MS can change from day to day and year to year. No drug can cure MS, but treatments are available which can modify the course of the disease.

DNMM is here to support people with MS. If you need help, contact us at 989-835-4041 or info@dnmm.org

Statement of Inclusion

Inclusion is a universal human right for all people, regardless of race, age, gender, religion, disability, sexual orientation, or any other discernible quality. To be inclusive is to promote a sense of belonging, respect, and value for who you are as a person. It is about equal access and opportunities for everyone. Inclusion is an integral part of our Independent Living philosophy and of our agency's vision of accessible and inclusive communities.

DNMM offices have been, and continue to be, places of solace, understanding, and information for all. We are committed to promoting and protecting diversity and inclusion, within our offices, among our community partners, and throughout the 15 Centers for Independent Living in Michigan.

DNMM advocates for the removal of barriers to independence and full inclusion of people with disabilities throughout the Mid-Michigan area. DNMM pledges to ensure accessibility. Each year, DNMM conducts a review of its own architectural, environmental, attitudinal, employment, communication, transportation, and other barriers that may exist that prohibit full access to our services.
