Farewell and Good Luck Stephanie Hart
I’ve often shared with you that we’re fortunate at the Chapter to have some of the best people in the business working with us. Right at the top of that list is Stephanie Hart.

Steph has worked for the Empire State Chapter of ABC for the last three years and she has given her very best to you – our membership – and our team here at ABC. She has, without a doubt, left an indelible mark on this Chapter, which is why I am sorry to share with you that she is leaving our team to pursue her degree and a new business adventure with her fiancé Alex.

While much of her work has been done behind the scenes and with little fanfare, Steph’s spirit and commitment to doing things right the first time will be with us for years to come. Her organization of our events, database, reports, and more has been crucial to our success. She has made this Chapter so much better and allowed us to focus more on providing added value to our members. It was Steph that, singlehandedly, brought back to the Chapter our Excellence in Construction program. Those who attended the program still speak of fondly of it.

I have leaned on Steph to help drive process improvements and to keep me grounded. I will miss her spirit, her smile, and her willingness to remain positive in the face of the endless challenges I threw at her.

I’m going to miss Steph, our team will miss her, and I know all of you will miss her as well.

Thank you, Steph, for your commitment to your peers, our organization, and our members! We wish you nothing but the best in your future endeavors. You will be missed!

  • The most important rights employers have during an OSHA inspection and strategies for asserting those rights during an inspection;
  • What OSHA must do to prove a violation against a construction company and why employers should consider contesting OSHA citations; and
  • How to establish commonly-asserted defenses to OSHA citations.

Don't miss out on this cost free, member exclusive webinar, that will provide you with vital information that could protect you from receiving OSHA violations in the future.

Congressman Reed to Address ABC Members
Please join us on March 16, 2021 from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. for our first Quarterly Membership Update of the year. The staff and Board will highlight some of the great work the Chapter has accomplished on behalf of the membership in the following areas:

  • Education
  • Membership
  • Government Affairs

We’ll be joined by our special guest speaker, Rep. Tom Reed (R- District 23 - Corning/Elmira), co-chair of the influential Problem Solvers Caucus. The caucus is a group of 24 Republicans and 24 Democrats who meet weekly to solve some of the most contentious issues facing our country today.
Rep. Reed will share with us the latest update from our nation's capital and what we, as the merit shop industry, can anticipate for this legislative session.

More on Rep. Reed:

  • Rep. Reed has been in office since 2010 and has been a firm believer in and supporter of the merit shop philosophy in the construction industry;
  • He currently serves on the vital Ways & Means Committee and the Social Security subcommittee; and
  • Before joining Congress, he served as the Mayor of Corning, New York for one term (two years).

Registration is required.
Based on the merit shop philosophy, we help our members develop skilled tradesmen and women, submit winning bids, and deliver profitable work in a safe, ethical, and timely manner for the betterment of the communities in which they work.

Call to Action: Support The Fair and Open Competition Act
The Fair and Open Competition Act has been reintroduced in Congress. This legislation protects federal and federally assisted construction contracts from government-mandated project labor agreements and will allow merit shop contractors to have a fair chance at competing to rebuild America.

After the bill was introduced, an ABC-led coalition of 17 construction industry and business associations sent a letter to congress in support of the bill, urging them to immediately pass this common-sense legislation.

ABC Chapters and members can take action to urge their representatives to sign on as a cosponsor by clicking the button below:
