52' Center-Beam Flatcar
with Bulkheads
Center-beam cars are specially modified flatcars designed for carrying building supplies such as cut wood, lumber, or drywall sheets from manufacturer to distributor. The cars represented in this release are based on a series of modified bulkhead flatcars that were converted for lumber haulage by the addition of center posts, deck risers, and ratchet tie-downs. Our ready-to-run models feature authentic decoration for six prototypical railroads and include a range of separately applied details. All cars come factory-equipped with blackened metal wheels and body-mounted E-Z Mate® Mark II knuckle couplers.
A similar (albeit longer) car used by British Columbia Railway.

New HO Scale SD40-2 Paint Schemes Coming Soon
The first painted samples of our new Sound Value® Santa Fe (SPSF scheme) and Conrail (Conrail Quality scheme) HO scale SD40-2s arrived at Bachmann HQ last week. The SPSF scheme, also known as "Kodachrome" by railfans due to its similarity to the packaging colors for the popular brand of camera film, was the result of over-confidence that a merger between the Santa Fe and Southern Pacific™ would be approved. While the permission for the railroads to merge was ultimately turned down, locomotives from both railroads continued to wear the merger livery with either "SF" or "SP" painted on the sides, and a gap where the other railroad's initials would have gone. This eye-catching and short-lived scheme can now make an impression on your railroad - arriving in late 2023.
