Description:
We will learn the power of attachment and how attachment is at times overlooked by play therapists when treating children with oppositional and self-destructive behaviors. Play therapists will also gain a better understanding of how disruption in attachment can be the root cause of some other behavioral health symptoms for which children present for therapy. Trauma, grief, and loss can impact a child’s ability to form meaningful and secure attachments. It’s crucial for play therapists to evaluate and treat attachment disruption. Additionally, play therapists will learn evidence-based interventions to help strengthen and repair the child-parent
relationship.
Objectives:
-
Identify attachment issues presented in children who are receiving play therapy
- Explain the difference between attachment issues and attachment disorder
- Identify evidence-based play therapy interventions to build and repair attachment
