Together, biologists embrace a future
of growth, innovation, and protection
The Alberta Society of Professional Biologists is really looking forward to hosting its conference at Lake Louise at the end of this month. “While we were grateful to have been able to collaborate with the foresters and chemists to host virtual conferences for two years during the pandemic,” says conference chair Andy Edeburn, “our Together Again in 2022 conference this month will feel rather special.”

Biologists, like engineers, lawyers and accountants, are particularly focused on professional regulation and governance this year. “Albertans are fortunate be able to enjoy a high quality of life,” Mr Edeburn continues, “and regulated professionals are responsible to the Alberta public to ensure a high level of protection for the public, as we embrace a future of enthusiastic innovation and diversification.

“We are especially looking forward to hearing from professional engineer Jessica Vandenberghe, our conference’s keynote speaker. I know that, from her viewpoint as Assistant Dean of the Engineering Community and Culture at the UofA, she will have important perspectives to share with us!”

A full schedule of presentations, networking opportunities, an updated list of conference sponsors, and registration information is available HERE.
Legislative Session Prorogued
Alberta’s Lieutenant Governor has ordered that the current legislative session will end effective October 30, 2022. This means that Bill 23, the Professional Governance Act, will not be enacted into law in this legislative session. Bill 23 represents a major overhaul of professional regulatory legislation in Alberta, and would therefore have had significant impact on the ASPB and over 20 other regulators. For more information, please go HERE.
AEP publishes new SAR recovery plans
Alberta Environment and Protected Areas has just published two species at risk recovery plans, the Alberta Whitebark Pine and Limber Pine Recovery Plan and the Alberta Porsild’s Bryum Recovery Plan. They can be found at the hyperlinks provided above.
