Our Mission Statement

We of Joy Lutheran Church foster
grace-filled relationships with Christ
through worship, fellowship, and service.
Notes of Joy - Week of July 5, 2020
This Week's Gospel:
Matthew 11:16-19, 25-30
The mystery of God’s ways is sometimes hidden from the wise and intelligent. Jesus associates with those often excluded from the religious community. Like Paul, we struggle with our own selfish desires and seek God’s mercy and forgiveness. We gather to be refreshed by Christ’s invitation: “Come to me, all you that are weary.” Gathered around word, water, and meal, we find rest for our souls.
Sunday's Worship
This week's worship will be in person at our sanctuary and available LIVE on our Facebook page Sunday at 9:30am.

You can still view our Facebook page, even if you do not have a Facebook account. Click the link above.  (Ignore the bar at the bottom when it opens asking you to sign-in or create an account. You are still able to scroll down through our page. You need to click "not now" on the pop-up page when it again asks you to sign up, then it will go away - - hope that helps!!) :-)
JCDC & the Joy Lutheran office will be closed Friday, July 3, for the Independence Day holiday.

Please answer these 2 questions and send them to the MSP team at

1.  ENERGY -- Where do you see there is momentum and energy in ministries here at Joy Lutheran Church? Where is Joy particularly gifted or excited?

2. OUR TOWN -- What are some of the changes or trends in our area that have been challenging over the past 3-5 years? Try to share 3 with us.

Upcoming Events in July

  • July 12 - We will hold worship outside, weather permitting. Bring your lawn chair! Holy communion offered

  • July 19 - Discussion after worship on Joy's ministry strengths

  • July 26 - Confirmation Sunday. We will confirm 3 young people
Thank you!
For his Eagle Project, Justin Nevells from our own Boy Scout Troop 219, led a team of volunteers to make 250 health masks!! He has gifted these masks to Joy Lutheran Church for our mask tree or where needed most.

Thank you, Justin and team! We appreciate your generous time and effort. We will share them with our community.
Calling all Joy Lutheran members & friends:
  • Do you have a favorite Bible Verse?
  • We would like to include them in one of the gifts we are giving to the 2020 Confirmands.
  • Please email the church office with a bible verse!
The latest "The Word in Season" pocket devotionals are here. We order 20 per quarter - they're first come, first serve, so if you're interested you can pick one up by the mask tree weekdays or at worship on Sunday.
Sound System
We have heard from you that it is hard to hear sometimes through our microphone in the sanctuary here at Joy. We are having repairs made to the sound system and they should be completed next week!
JCDC Playground Update
Check out some of the updates happening to the JCDC playground - thanks to the Wakeland and Young families!
Volunteers Needed
A big thank you to these people who have already helped with lawn mowing: Sue Weimer, Mona & Dave Mitton, and Wayne & Judy Rush.

We can use some more volunteers!

It's that time of year again! Joy Lutheran Church is seeking volunteers for weekly lawn care for the summer. The church has 2 push power mowers. We do not have a weed trimmer or leaf blower. If you'd like to use those, you will need to bring your own. If you plan to mow after hours/weekends, you will need to pick up the shed key from the office in advance or have your own key to access the building.

FINANCE UPDATE  as of 6/26/2020
Our commitment is to keep the congregation informed on our finances. During these extraordinary times it is important for you to know that your council and treasurer are trying to be good stewards of your offerings.

Our income for May was $22,430 (including a $5,000 special gift) and expenses were $15,912. All received May bills are paid.

  • Trash service has been reinstated. The council is investigating opportunities to reduce trash service costs.
  • JLC janitorial service was terminated in April and has not been reinstated at this time. (Thank you to the Mullin family for stepping up to keep the area by the office, including the bathroom, clean.) (Thank you to the various volunteers stepping up to keep the sanctuary and associated areas clean.)
  • The church council is currently seeking JLC janitorial service bids for a future contract.
  • There has been a need to repair the sanctuary sound system. The church council at the June meeting discussed and decided to get the sound system repaired. The ceiling speakers have been hard mounted to the ceiling vice hanging from wires. A new podium microphone is on order. As a point of information, costs for repairs are very high due to the sanctuary ceiling height and safety requirements to have 2 people on the job when working at such heights.

We cannot thank you enough for your continued faithful support of your church. We have seen an increase in families giving thru our online option. You can mail your offering or drop it off at the office.

Joy of Reading Book Club
The Joy of Reading Book Club meets the 3rd Monday of every month and gets started around 6:30 PM. Even if you haven’t read the book of the month you are still welcome to join us. It’s a fun evening of discussion, sharing of ideas and respectful listening. And lots of socializing and laughter!
No Book Club meeting in July   – time to go out and enjoy Alaska!
Our August book is  The Second Mountain: The Quest for a Moral Life  by David Brooks.  Sue Weimer will be hosting this.
We would like to have special music at worship, especially since we miss singing so much! Can you volunteer?
