Our Mission Statement

We of Joy Lutheran Church foster
grace-filled relationships with Christ
through worship, fellowship, and service.
Notes of Joy - Week of October 18, 2020
This week's gospel: Matthew 22:15-22
In today’s first reading God uses the Gentile ruler Cyrus to accomplish divine purposes. When the Pharisees try to trap Jesus, he tells them to give the emperor what belongs to him and to God what belongs to God. To gather for worship reminds us that our ultimate allegiance is to God rather than to any earthly authority. Created in the image of God, we offer our entire selves in the service of God and for the sake of the world.
Sunday, Oct. 18 Worship is In-person and Online

Our Sunday worship will be available LIVE on the Facebook app only beginning at 9:30am, and the recorded service will be available on Facebook after 10:15am and you can view any time.

Note: A link to our mitigation rules is below. We are wearing masks, practicing 6ft distance in chairs, and keeping services short due to COVID-19. We are being very safe - if you’d like to worship with us, please try it out!

WE HAVE A CALL COMMITTEE!!
I’m very happy to report that we have established our Call Committee and what an awesome group to lead Joy into the future! It is a diverse group including new members to Joy and folks that have been members for many years, folks with young children or grown children, and even a newly confirmed member. This committed and willing group is:

Martin Atrops, Henry Huntington, Jill Duke, Nicole Simasko, Cynthia Oistad and Connor Lanehart

Please keep them in your prayers as they start this important next step in our search for a new pastor.

Thank You!
Thank you very much for the beautiful autumn-colored bouquet and many cards you sent me on Pastor Appreciation Sunday. I was quite surprised!  It is a privilege to serve alongside you here at Joy Lutheran Church. God has brought us together, and I am thankful.

Grateful for you,
Pastor Karen Sonray
Sunday School
Sunday School meets after worship beginning at 10:15am - open to all children age 2yo through 6th grade.
Thank you for your generosity!

Our Offerings have dipped the past 2 months (approximately $3500 in August and $2500 in September). Your offerings are very much appreciated and needed. As the season changes our utility expenses will rise. We are also on the cusp of determining how much we can pay a Full-time pastor in the near future. THANK YOU for your generous giving. You can also give electronically (see below or on our Website) and set up giving on a monthly basis.
Joy of Reading Book Club
Joy of Reading Book Club has successfully and safely met this summer. It’s getting a little chilly for outdoor meetings so we will be moving into our own Brause Fellowship Hall starting in October.

We meet the 3rd Monday of every month at 6:30 PM. We have read some very compelling books and we have had great conversations about them.  Even if you haven’t had the chance to read the book of the month, it’s still fun!

The book for October is The Dragons, the Giant, the Women by Wayetu Moore.  Upcoming books are:

November – The Rent Collector by Camron Wright
December – Last Days of Rabbit Hayes by Anna McPartlin
January – Jimmy Bluefeather by Kim Heacox
COMING UP:

Sunday, Oct. 18 -- Sunday School

Monday, Oct. 19 -- Book Club: Brause Fellowship Hall

Sunday, Oct. 25 -- Congregational Meeting

Sunday, Nov. 1 -- All Saints Sunday

Sunday, Nov. 1 -- Daylight Savings Time Ends (fall back)
