Welcome to the Team!

The Learning Center added two new members to the staff roster this month! Mia Spaid is our new On Farm Program manager and long-time friend of the Learning Center Andy Skupien will be stepping into the kitchen as our new chef for programs on the farm!

They both are busy learning the ropes and on-boarding with Jackie and their program directors, but they each were able to write up a lovely little bio to introduce themselves to our audience.

What's Growing at Roots & Wings

From Tedd Snowden

At the end of October, we had our annual Harvest Celebration at Blackhawk Courts Farm & garden. Every year, as we wrap up on the farm, we like to end the season by inviting folks from the community to come over to the farm to share a meal with us. Yatte makes sure he plans and grows enough vegetables specifically for this event. This year we offered pull pork sliders, coleslaw, chili, salad, and sweet potato pie. All the vegetables used in the meal came from the farm.

We'd like to ask for your help, AOLC,!

Not for money - we know the holidays are quickly approaching! We need individuals like you to volunteer a few hours of their time in December to help us raise $20,000 to support our educational programming. This time of year, people are looking for ways to connect and for causes that touch their heart - and we are all more likely to give if it's something that means a lot to a friend, or family member.

All donations go directly to the Learning Center, and first-time donors are welcomed into our amazing community of friends, participants, volunteers and supporters, growing our reach and extending our message.

We'll provide all the guidelines and a whole kit of materials you can use to post on social media, send emails and inspire your peers to join your cause and gather donations toward a goal you set for yourself. You can create a team and work together, or keep your own profile and race the clock to meet your goal before Dec. 31.

In the spirit of this season of thanks, we are very thankful for your support. Our community makes us strong and keeps us moving towards an equitable, healthful, local farm and food economy.
