SEPTEMBER NEWS

Reminder we race every Tuesday now. We run racing fast and are out of there by 8:15pm. Consider coming out on a school night.
Novice Training Classes are back every Saturday morning and Monday afternoon starting September 7th! $20 for the hour, rental bikes and helmets are included, presign online is highly recommended.
The next Board Meeting is next Wednesday September 11. Parents welcome to attend, or you can listen in on a link we will post on our Remind Text system
Thursday nights are on the chopping block, come out September 5 for FREE Open practice with a 6:45pm meeting to discuss how to keep them going
Please VOLUNTEER! REMINDER! You must volunteer RACE NIGHTS to help keep our program alive. As much as we seemingly run smoothly every single night, we are still in need of 10-20 volunteers MORE every night (mostly in the office 6-7pm, concession 6-9pm and staging 7:30-8:30p, Trophy room 8pm, then putting rental bikes away 8:30-9pm). We need everyone to step up and do more to keep our large program running smooth. If everyone pitches in then the burden is lightened on those who show up at 5:30p and are the last to leave EVERY DAY.
New for September, a FREE balance bike class on September 6 @5pm. Registration required.
STATE RACING SEASON 2025 : Calendar has been posted! We will be sending out informational emails and social media to help all new riders on navigating this exciting part of travel BMX. One of the qualifiers is at Okeeheelee so you will already get two days of qualifiers done and dusted!! We are the #1 Track for a reason!

A BALANCE BIKE CLASS SEPT 6 @5pm

This class is for any licensed balance bike rider and their parents. Parent participation required

4:45pm – Gates Open

5pm-6:00pm – Balance bike class- games and fun activities

REQUIRED:

Online Pre-registration prior to 5pm, or on site registration

Please stop and get a wristband upon arrival

Valid USA BMX Membership

Attire-Full face helmets, long sleeves and long pants on all athletes

THURSDAY NIGHT OPEN PRACTICE SEPT 5

During the school year we typically open for Thursday Nights for Open Practice.(ALL AGES, ALL PROFICIENCIES, GATE IS ON AUTO)

This two hour session has suffered from lack of volunteer availability for the past THREE years. We are opening for the evening for open practice but then at 6:45 we will have a parent meeting to discuss what we need to continue with Open Practice or if we need to consider other programs for this evening time slot.

EVERYONE CAN RACE THE FLORIDA STATE SERIES

Calling all our new Novice racers who just joined our program.

Yes, you can earn a state plate as a Novice racer! You will race other Novice riders - YOUR AGE! -from other tracks. Come and race with us at one or more of these state race weekends. We will be posting flyers that have all your information for registration and practice times prior to each Qualifier weekend. And as a real bonus- one of the stops is at Okeeheelee BMX so you have hometrack advantage!

RAINY SEASON - REMIND TEXT SYSTEM

As we move into our hurricane season and start of the school year we realize that everyone is super busy. And this is your friendly reminder:

That the volunteers that show up race nights and training sessions are also just as busy as you are, have day jobs, and barely make it to the track on time without forgetting gloves and wish someone could perfectly predict the afternoons weather at 8am.
We do not live at the track- we also wonder if its raining there...
We use the same weather apps as you do to sort out the probability of rain in areas we are heading to- and know that 50% of the time they are wrong
There are 900 people signed up for our text alerts specifically to PREVENT receiving 900 phone calls asking us what the weather is like at the track

FACTS

We will send a "We are rained out" text no earlier than 1 hour prior to opening
if we do not send a text that we are rained out then ALWAYS ASSUME WE ARE OPEN FOR NORMAL PROGRAMS ON THE CALENDAR
Registering to race online is a no brainer because if we rain out we easily refund your money.
We will ALWAYS try to be open in lightly inclement weather - the only "NO GO" is NEARBY LIGHTNING or heavy persistent rain that softens the surface of the track.

Join the Text service by texting @okeebmx to the number 81010 and then if prompted you will opt in with your name not your child's name (children under 13 are not permitted to join this text service) so please DO NOT register for the text service as your child.
