As we celebrated Juneteenth last week, a pivotal moment in our nation's journey toward freedom and equality, I am reminded of both the immense progress we have made and the substantial work that still lies ahead. Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the United States, a hard-won victory achieved through immeasurable sacrifice and perseverance. Yet even today, nearly 160 years later, the struggle for true equity and justice continues. Let this occasion inspire us to rededicate ourselves to dismantling systemic barriers and ensuring equal rights and opportunities for all.
I wish to extend my sincere gratitude to every one of you for your tireless efforts throughout the 2023/2024 academic year. Your passion, creativity, and unwavering commitment to nurturing young minds have been invaluable assets to our communities. As you take a well-deserved summer break, I hope you find time to recharge, explore new interests, and replenish your spirits for the challenges and triumphs that await in 2024/2025.
Looking ahead, I invite you to save the following important dates:
- NABSE National Conference: November 20-24, 2024
- NABSE Midwest Regional Breakfast: November 23, 2024
- NABSE Midwest Regional Conference: April 24-26, 2025
- OABSE Superintendent Commission Business Luncheon: September 17, 2024
These gatherings provide invaluable opportunities for professional growth, collaboration, and collective progress toward our shared vision of educational excellence.
Together, let us honor the spirit of Juneteenth by redoubling our efforts to build a more just, equitable, and inclusive society for all. Wishing you a restorative and joyful summer.
Forward ever, backward never,
