Dear OABSE Members and Supporters,

I pray that your Thanksgiving holiday was filled with joy, love, and cherished moments with family and friends. As we move into the heart of this festive season, I extend my warmest wishes for a happy and fulfilling holiday season.

May the new year bring prosperity, peace, and continued success in all your endeavors, both personally and professionally. Thank you for your unwavering commitment to advancing the education and empowerment of Black students across Ohio and throughout the Midwest. Together, we are making a meaningful impact.

The 52nd Annual NABSE Conference was a remarkable opportunity for educators across the nation to come together to reconnect, reflect, and rededicate ourselves to the mission and purpose of NABSE. It was inspiring to witness the dedication and energy of our Midwest Region throughout the event.

At the Midwest Regional Breakfast, over 160 members joined us in a powerful gathering that highlighted our collective progress and aspirations. State Presidents from across the region shared impactful presentations on their work advancing NABSE’s mission, showcasing the incredible strides we are making.

The session also featured essential updates and initiatives:

  • The Legislative Committee Chair outlined NABSE’s legislative agenda and priorities for the coming year.
  • The Coalition of Allies (COA) Chair emphasized the significance of the COA initiative and issued a call to action for all affiliates to join in advancing this critical work.
  • A representative from the National Teachers Institute (NTI) provided exciting information on the 2025 NTI, set to take place in Atlanta, Georgia.

We were also grateful to hear from our corporate partners—MGT, Plant Moran Realpoint, and Concentric—who shared their greetings and pledged continued support for the 2025 Midwest Regional Conference. Their commitment is a testament to the strength of our partnerships and our shared mission.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of NABSE’s 52nd Annual Conference. Let us carry this momentum forward as we continue to empower and uplift Black educators and students across the Midwest and beyond.

I’m excited to share some important updates as we close out the year and look ahead to 2025!

On a celebratory note, I am proud to recognize the historic establishment of the Greater Peoria Alliance of Black School Educators in Illinois. This monumental achievement reflects the ongoing growth and strength of our network. Congratulations to Superintendent Dr. Sharon Kherat, Illinois Superintendent of the Year, and the newly elected executive officers for answering the call to organize. Special thanks to ILABSE President Gloria Davis for her leadership in joining me on this journey to Peoria to facilitate the inaugural organizational meeting on December 11, 2024.

A final note of congratulations to Dr. Yvonne Stokes, who has been elected as the next Midwest Region Representative. Dr. Stokes is dedicated to advancing the mission of NABSE and is committed to growing state and local affiliate structures across the Midwest. We look forward to her leadership and vision in continuing the important work of strengthening our regional impact.

As we prepare for the new year, I am deeply grateful for your continued dedication and support. Together, we are making meaningful strides in uplifting and empowering Black educators and students across the Midwest and beyond.

Wishing you all a joyous holiday season and a prosperous New Year!
