December, 2019
Wild Care Friends
As the year comes to an end, I would like to thank each and every one of you for making it so special. Thank you to everyone who brought us an animal, called us for advice, made a donation, donated much-needed supplies, or sent us words of endearment. It all makes a difference to us at Wild Care.
Our Giving Tuesday campaign on December 3rd, was an incredible success. Thanks to you, our Speed Queen industrial strength dryer will arrive next week, and we will have new hummingbird, squirrel and songbird pens built by March of 2020. Just in time for the busy season! It never ceases to amaze me, the thoughtfulness and generosity of our community and fans. In a world that sometimes seems as though it is filled with doom and gloom, let this be a reminder to never give up hope. Acts of kindness and kind-hearted people exist. We see them every single day. Thank you all for making a difference at Wild Care.
Happy Holidays to you, and yours.
Sincerely, Executive Director, Stephanie ~

Meet our Tiny Educational Ambassador, "Bill".
|
|
My name is William Puck, but you can call me Bill! I am a White-Footed mouse and I am a native species on Cape Cod. I was found in the parking
lot of the Charles Moore Arena as a baby, wandering around and chewing on grass. A kind person noticed me, and brought me to Wild Care, where they found out I was starving, and had a severe skin and eye infection.
|
|
The nice people at Wild Care gave me Pedialyte, and antibiotics, and fixed me all up! Unfortunately, the eye infection left me blind, so I am unable to be released back into the wild. But even though I can’t see, I can easily get around with the use of my whiskers. I now live at Wild Care as a mouse ambassador where I teach people about the important roles that mice play in the environment!
|
Please consider a donation TODAY towards the care of our patients, and our educational animals. Every dollar helps!

Rodenticide: Some Squirrels Survived
|
|
|
By Jennifer Taylor, Animal Care Coordinator
Last week I received an email thanking me for Wild Care’s help almost a year ago. It is a wonderful feeling to successfully guide people through a crisis. A woman named Helen had called Wild Care last January.
She was distraught and very concerned about the squirrels who were acting sick in her yard. She witnessed one of them eating a blue packet. She also found a dead squirrel with blue material near it...

The Occasional ‘Wild’ of Rescuing…

Adventures of a Wild Care Volunteer,
by Amy Sanders
I took a long walk on Nauset Beach in Eastham and the surf was roaring as a result of a heavy storm off shore. Gulls were dodging the wave crests, diving for snacks, and a variety of them were wandering around the rack line in search of edible treats...

Volunteer Spotlight
by
Kate Rollenhagen Diggs,
Volunteer Coordinator
Wild Care is grateful for our volunteers! We would not survive without them. This month, we'd like to highlight outstanding volunteer,
Beth Fletcher
.
Friday mornings you will find Beth at Wild Care, taking care of the clinic cleaning duties and observing what's happening with our animal patients. Beth has a wonderful attention to detail and willingness to do whatever tasks are needed, That makes her an ideal volunteer here in the clinic. She's a (12th+ generation!) native Cape Codder who grew up visiting her family's camp on Monomoy Island, where she first learned that she needs nature to stay centered. She first heard about Wild Care years ago but never had time to volunteer until she retired last year. Beth started volunteering in September and when we asked what she was looking forward to learning, she said she was up for anything. We love your open-minded spirit, Beth! Thank you for being a Wild Care volunteer!

About Wild Care
Since 1994, Wild Care has treated injured, ill and orphaned native wildlife for release back into the wild, capable of independent survival. We have prevented wildlife casualties through public education and counseling, and engaged the community in conservation services through volunteerism. Wild Care does not charge the public for our services. We accept wildlife regardless of a rescuer's ability to make a donation; and we never compromise quality of care or the dignity of an animal's life for fundraising purposes.
