OCTOBER - 2020
Our goal is to rescue stray dogs of any breed off the streets of Detroit that are injured, sick or that are in imminent danger and need immediate medical attention.
DPC 7th Year Anniversary!

October 2020 was another busy month for us here at Detroit Pit Crew. We not only rescued several extremely injured and sick dogs from the streets of Detroit, but we also participated in a number of cruelty cases. Several of the dogs that were rescued from abuse and cruelty remain in our protective custody and are being held as live evidence. We believe that animals subject to abuse, not only deserve to be protective from further abuse, but that they also deserve justice. We have ZERO tolerance for animal abuse and we will continue to be a loud voice for the voiceless. 

We are also excited to be celebrating our 7th year as an organization on October 29, 2020. In the past 7 years we have rescued thousands of dogs in desperate need of help. We have mourned the loss of those dogs we were not able to save and we have celebrated the life of those dogs that were able to rescue and provide a better life for. The heartbreak and tears that we shed over those dogs we are not able to save is a never-ending struggle however, our focus is to remain strong and dedicated to continuing to fight daily on behalf of destitute dogs of Detroit that need us the most.

Here are a few of our October rescues
LILAH
Rescued off the streets of Detroit in horrible condition, Lilah had to have lifesaving emergency surgery. Lilah is now recovering and doing well.
STORMY
Rescued from the streets with chemical burns all over his body. Sadly, his wounds were too extensive and we were not able to save him. Rest easy Stormy.
BANJO
Rescued after being mauled by another dog. Banjo required emergency care and weeks of wound care but was able to make a full recovery. He is now doing well.
RUTH
Ruth came to us from the police after she was rescued from extremely cruel conditions. Thankfully her owners were charged with animal abuse.
CARLO
Carlo is being held in our protective custody. Sadly he was video taped being abused. His owners have been charged and we are hoping for justice.
HAMILTON
Rescued off the streets in horrible condition. We rushed him to an emergency vet for care where he was diagnosed with cancer and liver failure. Rest easy Hamilton.
ABBY
Rescued in Detroit running the streets with severe painful matting. Abby was taken to an emergency vet to be put under and shaved down. She is now looking and feeling much better.
SUMMER
Rescued extremely sick and dehydrated. Summer had leptospirosis and suspected distemper. Despite our best efforts we were not able to save her. Rest easy Summer.
RUSTY
Rescued in Detroit barely able to stand. We rushed him to an emergency veterinary hospital for care but sadly he later died. Rest easy Rusty.

Trick or Treat Time!

This is my favorite time of year bonfires, cider, pumpkin flavored everything and Halloween. I do not get to go trick or treating these days anymore but I hope you get to and that it is fun and safe for all especially our four-legged tricksters. The biggest concern for us veterinarians is making sure that you do not share chocolate treats with your dogs. Chocolate is a poison for dogs and can have a variety of signs ranging from vomiting and diarrhea all the way to seizures and irregular heartbeat and death. Just like any toxin this will depend on how much your dog eats but it also changes with what type of chocolate they ingest with milk chocolate having lower effects to dark chocolate and cocoa powder being very dangerous. Just remember like any concerns with your dogs’ health contact your veterinarian. If you need to share your Halloween candy, let me know I will be happy to help!
