Former Dallas police Officer Amber Guyger walked free from prison Friday morning after serving seven years behind bars for the murder of Botham Jean. Guyger, 38, shot 26-year-old Jean inside his apartment in September 2018. He had been sitting on his couch eating ice cream when Guyger, who was off-duty but still in uniform, opened the door.
She said she mistook Jean’s apartment for her own and believed he was a burglar. He lived on the fourth floor; she lived on the third. She was convicted of murder and sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2019, but was granted parole earlier this month.
Guyger was released after 10 a.m. from the Christina Melton Crain Unit in Gatesville. CBS reported live from the unit, but news cameras didn’t capture her release.

AUSTIN — Ken Paxton may have a political problem on his hands after leaked audio from a September fundraiser sparked some backlash from Texas retirees over his remarks about cutting federal spending. In the recording, Paxton argued that cuts to mandatory federal spending would be necessary to address the national deficit. “There’s no doubt we have to cut some of the mandatory spending,” he said during the private discussion. The Texas Alliance for Retired Americans took issue with the remarks, arguing that retirees depend on these programs to pay bills, obtain medical care and afford prescriptions.

What are some of those precautions and safeguards? Here are a few of them. Call me when you get there. Take your cell phone with you. Come straight home. Park in a safe location. Don’t roll your car windows down.

A great staycation starts when you treat your hometown like a destination – book one ‘anchor’ experience, stay somewhere that changes your scenery, and leave room for a little spontaneity,” said Steve Orens, President of FROSCH by Chase Travel, a leading travel agency. “My favorite staycation tip is to make it easy on yourself: choose a walkable area, plan one highlight each day, and let the hotel do the heavy lifting – warm beds, quick breaks, and fewer logistics. Holiday travel can be exciting, but between costs, crowded airports.

For many people diagnosed with focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS), the story starts the same way: “I didn’t feel anything at first.” “I thought it was something minor.” “I didn’t know until it was serious.” That’s not a coincidence, it’s a pattern. FSGS is a kidney disease that can quietly progress for months or even years before it’s detected. And for Black patients in particular, diagnosis is often delayed, missed, or misunderstood altogether.

DAILY REMEMBRANCE
Somebody woke up to a void today and is trying to find their way.
Somebody won't be able to make things right because of things they didn't get a chance to say.
Somebody is wishing they could turn back time and gaze into a loved one's eyes. Somebody's heart has been broken by death, and all they can do is cry.
Somebody has fallen to their knees with the weight of sadness today.
Somebody is learning that the only way up from here is to stay on their knees and pray.
