Walking into a room with a mixture of folk from diverse faiths, races, and viewpoints was odd enough. But finding them actually talking and exchanging opinions was even more different. Yet, the exchanges taking place seemed to be working. The interracial, interfaith event was the annual Pastors’ Luncheon, this year for the first time at the State Fair of Texas Cotton Bowl Stadium on Tuesday, October 6 – during the State Fair’s 24-day run from Sept. 25 through Oct. 18, 2026.

Who is more powerful: a king or a kingmaker? Anyone can become a king, a king eventually will lose his position over a period of time. Whereas a kingmaker, can make many kings. If ever there was an opportune time to analyze the adage “politics makes strange bedfellows,” then the tepid relationship between Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett and Texas Senate candidate Democrat James Talarico is worth examining. Congresswoman Crockett is in a perfect position to be a national political Kingmaker

The picture of Latina beauty has never been limited to one signature look: Red lipstick, black eyeliner, and dramatic eyebrows. Yet, that image still shapes how Latinas are represented in a global beauty market projected to reach 375.62 billion dollars by the end of 2026. Despite Latina beauty spending being valued at $23 billion with a 6 percent year-over-year increase, brand visibility, investment, product development, and authentic cultural representation remain nearly invisible. In the past decade, we’ve seen Latina-founded brands like Rizos Curls.

| | | | “I’m Always Swollen”: Managing FSGS Fluid Retention the Right Way | | |
By Evan Bollinger
BlackDoctor

Bloated, lethargic, and feeling completely unlike yourself? For many people with Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS), this is the exact feeling that comes again and again, moving beyond mere inconvenience and becoming something that can disrupt daily living in the worst of ways. In fact, this swelling, or edema, is a potentially serious consequence of FSGS. A rare kidney disease that scars the glomeruli — the tiny filtering units in the kidneys — FSGS can lead to heavy protein loss in the urine, also known as proteinuria. Losing important proteins makes it harder for blood vessels to hold onto fluid. The kidneys may also retain extra sodium and water. Together, these changes cause swelling, especially in the legs and feet, which can become severely problematic.

DAILY REMEMBRANCE
Grief has colored my world. Such stark contrasts between the then and now.
How bland the white days when I can't see what is before me.
In a fog of non-distinctiveness.
No form or fashion to my existence on these days, and yet, I see light.
Something bright and warm beckoning me.
The dark days of color bring with them such darkness that I can't venture out.
I stay still, sometimes unable to even speak.
Wrapping myself within myself.
Going round and round and round.
Seeing burst of red through the spinning.
Marking my journey before and after.
Marking my journey round and round in what seems a senseless rotation.
Marking my journey from then to now.
