Exchange Club of Rome celebrates 85 years of service
XC 85th Birthday
The Exchange Club of Rome celebrated 85 years of service to our community at our business meeting last Friday with the cutting of a special birthday cake by President Lee Roberts and former Georgia House Representative Paul Smith. Mr. Smith is the olders member of the club at 93 years young, and has the longest tenure with 67 years.

Past president Buzz Wachsteter presented a short program outlining the history of the club and highlighting some of our achievements, including the creation of the Coosa Valley Fair in 1949 and the Family Resource Center in 1991. Mr. Wachsteter recognized members who have led the club as president, board member, district president, and other district officers.

The club was chartered in July 1936 with 25 male members. Women were not allowed in National Exchange Club until the 1980s. Since becoming members of the Exchange club of Rome, women have served in every capacity of leadership, including all offices. board of directors, committee chairs. The Rome club was sponsored by the Exchange Club of Cedartown, which is also still active.
Family Resource Center
The state of Georgia recently released an updated State Child Abuse Prevention Plan and the FRC has been asked to help translate this plan to meet local needs in DFCS Region 3 (Bartow, Douglas, Floyd, Haralson, Paulding, and Polk counties). We've had our first meeting (with 35 people in attendance!) and identified some initial priorities. Our next step is to develop action items. If you want to be a part of the conversation, please join the next virtual meeting on 7/16 at 9:30am. Register at https://forms.gle/RgPzUHfjGfF9M8WVA

Exchange members - Be on the lookout for grant opportunities that come your way through utility companies or your work place. Those grants can support our work! Buzz Wachsteter recently submitted a grant as a customer of Constellation and secured $500 that we can use to purchase educational/therapy items for the FRC. Our Parent Aides will use these tools with families to assist children with their development. Thanks Buzz!

Here are some photos from our involvement in the Public Safety Expo, which was held last Saturday from 10am until 2pm. The Coosa Valley Fair Association donated the fairgrounds, and the Exchange Club of Rome cooked and sold hamburgers and hotdogs. Proceeds from the sale were donated back to the Floyd County Police Department to help defray the cost of producing a recruitment video for the Public Safety agencies.
Dues!
Please reach out to Carol Abrams to make sure you are caught up on your dues.

Exchange Club Committees Need You!
Watch for a Special Survey this week regarding Committees. We are Rome's Service Club, and we get things done best when we work together. Be thinking now about where you want to plug in, and let us know by responding to the survey. You will hear more about this at Friday's meeting.
