Hints 'n Tips for Keeping Yours Healthy
The prospect of experiencing prostate health problems is perhaps one of the most prominent health concerns of men today. Many men do end up experiencing symptoms of benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH) . Many men develop prostate cancer . Is it all a luck of the draw, or are there things guys can do to "love" their prostate glands? You can guess my answer!
Back up... what IS the prostate, anyway?
Yes, and it isn't the PROSTRATE - that's a verb that means to lie down on the ground with the face pointing downward - we usually associate with worship!

The prostate is a walnut-sized gland located between the bladder and the penis. The prostate is just in front of the rectum. The urethra runs through the center of the prostate, from the bladder to the penis, letting urine flow out of the body.

The prostate secretes fluid that nourishes and protects sperm. During ejaculation, the prostate squeezes this fluid into the urethra, and it’s expelled with sperm as semen.

Diet Matters
"When meat is cooked at a high temperature – when a steak, burger, hot dog, or even a piece of cooked fish gets those grill marks that most of us really like to see – it produces a bad ingredient called PhIP. PhIP, a short name for a long chemical compound, is a “pro-carcinogen,” a chemical that turns into something that can attack and mutate your DNA. PhIP is known to cause prostate (and breast, and colon) cancer in rats."
"There is a light in this particular tunnel: Veggies. When the scientists fed rats tomatoes and broccoli along with PhIP, the rats lived longer and had fewer prostate neoplasms, intestinal cancers, and skin cancers than the rats that just ate the PhIP. Don’t be that guy who hates veggies unless they’re deep-fried and dipped in ranch. Learn to love broccoli. Really."
Glutathione in Defense of the Prostate System
Here I go again, beating the same old drum - but it is a Wondrous Drum indeed!

"Prostate hypertrophy (enlargement) is more often benign than malignant. It is age related, increasing to over 80% in men over 80. Several factors are related to this condition, one being male hormones (androgens) and another being deficiencies in glutathione (GSH) enzymes, in particular GSH-S-transferases. It has been proposed that deficiency in this glutathione enzyme system increases the likelihood of developing both an enlarged prostate and prostate cancer. "

" Androgens have been reported to stimulate free radical damage and deplete glutathione in human prostate cancer cells (4). Given the natural decline of glutathione levels with aging , it is suggested that androgens induce pro-oxidative stress which, unopposed by a weakened glutathione system , contributes to the development of prostate cancer."
Some supportive supplements...
Progesterone (yes, progesterone! - not just for women)... cream with saw palmetto - rub straight into the prostate area...
A healthy microbiome is very important to prostate health, but the strains are unique to that part of the body. This is a good product.
Coffee for prostate health???
Indulging a serious coffee habit is linked to a decreased risk of fatal prostate cancer:
  • Drinking four to five cups
  •  of coffee every day can lower your chances of fatal and high-grade prostate cancer, according to a 2014 review of clinical studies.
  • Regardless of how many cups you drink overall, every three cups of coffee you drink can reduce your risk of fatal prostate cancer about 11 percent.

This describes a dose-response relationship between prostate cancer and coffee. That means the effect on prostate cancer goes up or down with the amount of coffee you drink. These effects  may not extend  to someone who only grabs an occasional cup.

Dandelion: Considered a common weed found in most gardens, but you would be mistaken as dandelions are herbs with amazing healing properties. It has the ability to strengthen the muscles and connective tissue inside the bladder, giving those with an overactive bladder better control of their bladder movements.
"four cups a day does it initially...takes a couple weeks to take effect...and can gradually taper off to 2 cups...get the dandelion root in bulk from Frontier via Amazon "
Input from a Wondrous Roots client... DANDELION ROOT TEA!
"I have been drinking Dandelion Root tea for a month now and no longer have to get up in the middle of the night to go pee...I had been getting up almost hourly (and thus little sleep). A friend in AUS has been doing this for 10 years with success...I had a retired dentist friend start dandelion tea a few weeks ago and this past 5 nights he has not had to get up to pee...and can play a round of 18 holes of golf without having to head out into the woods!! Just sayin, read your article and it is not mentioned...and with baby boomers abounding, you may want to dedicate a show to this little known fact of dandelions."
