Quarterly News & Updates

JANUARY | 2026

A Quick Winter Reminder!

Winter electric bills are typically higher due to colder weather, seasonal lighting, and higher regional fuel costs. The January billing cycle also has a higher number of days because of the holidays. Here are some ways you can stay ahead:

> Track your usage in the RMLD customer portal:  Make adjustments to lower your use.

> Enroll in Connected Homes and easily manage your electric load and help keep rates low for everyone

> Sign up for Peak Alerts and help 'Shred the Peak & Save' by lowering your use during expensive peak demand hours.

> Explore Budget Billing for an even monthly billing amount all year round.

Welcome to Advanced Metering!

RMLD is rolling out an advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) across the service territory over the next 18 months. This initiative includes the replacement of all residential and commercial RMLD meters.

What is AMI?

AMI is an industry-standard electric metering system that provides secure, interval-based energy readings. These readings integrate with the RMLD customer portal, providing customers with detailed energy reports that can be a key tool to help manage energy use.

AMI meters meet all federal safety standards. More information is available from the Federal Communications Commission.

For information about the RMLD AMI rollout progress, visit: www.rmld.com/AMI

DID YOU KNOW? More than 70% of electric meters nationwide already use AMI technology, making it a proven and widely adopted standard across the utility industry.

CALLING ALL BUSINESSES!

Do you want to lower your business’s annual energy costs? Do you need a simple, cost-saving program? Do you want to support a more reliable energy grid? ï»¿

If you answered yes to one or all of these questions then the RMLD Commercial Peak Demand Response (PDR) program is right for you! RMLD Commercial PDR requires small changes in energy use from businesses that can lead to large rewards. Here’s how:

  • Enrolled business is notified of an ‘energy peak’ in advance
  • Business reduces use or shifts energy use to off-peak times to lower use during the peak event.
  • Business receives a bill credit for annual participation.

It’s truly that simple! Email RMLD to learn more and enroll.

Sign Up to 'Shred the Peak' and Save!

Peak demand days affect the cost of power in the greater New England area. The greater the demand, the higher the cost. When we reduce our collective energy use on peak days, we can lower the cost of our purchased power. RMLD passes those savings on to customers.

A simple email alert and flip of a switch can lead to savings!

Heat Pump Upgrades – A Hot Topic

Upgrading your heating system is an important decision, and homeowners need to take all factors into account. Here are some quick facts to help as you consider an upgrade:

  • Heat pumps are a versatile and efficient solution for home heating and cooling. Heat pump technology has advanced, making systems more reliable and effective in colder climates, and systems can be installed with or without ductwork.
  • Heat pumps have lower greenhouse gas emissions than oil, propane, natural gas, and electric resistance heating systems.
  • Heat pumps are cost competitive, helping customers reduce their net energy costs when compared with fossil fuel systems.
  • Heat pumps offer all-in-one comfort: heating, cooling, and dehumidification in one system
  • Heat pumps are made more affordable thanks to the RMLD Heat Pump rebate or zero-percent interest loan.  ï»¿

Explore heat pumps as a smart solution for your home. For more information or to connect with an RMLD specialist, email rebates@rmld.com.
