RMLD Commissions 10MW Energy Storage System in North Reading
Reading Municipal Light Department (RMLD) commissioned the River Park Energy Storage System with a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, May 13. The 10 MW system will improve RMLD’s grid resiliency and is already providing peak demand reduction. RMLD customers will benefit from lower transmission and capacity costs of delivered energy.
Key state legislators and town officials were in attendance, and RMLD was presented with official citations from both the Massachusetts Senate and Massachusetts House of Representatives to mark this significant resource launch.

Hello RMLD Customers,
As we kick off the summer, I want to reassure you that RMLD is as committed as ever to continue to provide you with the reliable and low-cost power that you have come to expect.
The line, meter, engineering, and operations teams continue to make progress on our Station 6 project and the smart meter rollout, all while keeping our reliability metrics well above industry standards. The Integrated Resources Division (IRD), customer service, and finance teams are looking ahead to explore cost-saving efficiencies and to roll out energy and community programs across our territory.
I'm excited to lead such a strong team and to serve our communities while the RMLD Board of Commissioners searches for a permanent general manager.
Wishing you all a safe and fun summer!
Michael O'Neill
Interim General Manager

RMLD Launches First Responder Safety Training
RMLD piloted a First Responder Safety Training with the Reading Fire Department in June. The training spanned four days, covered all four department shifts, and was attended by 39 firefighters. Led by General Line Foreman Matt Bernard and Assistant General Line Foreman Tom McRae, the training covered energized line response, downed line and vehicle incident safety, reporting protocols, and more.

RMLD is committed to keeping our first responders safe as they respond to emergencies involving power equipment and energized lines and looks forward to rolling out this training with additional Fire and Police Departments in RMLD territory over the next year.

Weatherization 101: Why it Matters.
Weatherization is the process of protecting a home or structure from outside elements. It can include sealing leaks, improving insulation, and upgrading materials to protect against water, wind, sun, and insect damage. Proper weatherization can improve energy efficiency, reduce energy consumption, and lower utility bills.
Why is weatherization good for me and my home? A better sealed and more insulated home can save you money by lowering your energy use. A properly weatherized home requires less energy to maintain comfortable indoor temperatures, leading to reduced energy use and increased comfort.
When should I consider weatherization? It’s crucial to take steps to weatherize before installing any new clean energy system. Air sealing and insulating your home, including sealing and insulating ductwork, ensures that there are as few gaps as possible for indoor air to escape and outdoor air to enter. Including weatherization as part of any energy upgrade will help maximize your energy efficiency.
