The U.S. Department of Defense sent out a notice Thursday, requesting assistance from FAU and university researchers across the country. 

Foreign government exploitation targeting research and intellectual capital are putting the country’s research integrity at risk, said Michael D. Griffin, the undersecretary of defense for research and engineering. Griffin outlined steps the defense department and other federal funding agencies are taking. See the notice here . 

To address those concerns, FAU is hosting David P. Fernicola, Jr., special agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation, 9 to 10 a.m. Nov. 1 to discuss "Targeting of U.S. Colleges and Universities." 

His talk will focus on how America’s open and collaborative environment puts academia at risk for foreign exploitation by those who do not follow American rules or share our values. To RSVP, click here .

Bilingual Children Gain Rich Vocabulary from Hearing Proficient English Speakers

Erika Hoff, Ph.D., lead author and a professor of psychology in the Charles E. Schmidt College of Science, and Katherine F. Shanks, also in FAU's department of psychology, were co-researchers on a study about how the differences in vocabulary used while talking to children affects a child's vocabulary.

The study results were published in the Journal of Child Language. READ MORE.

FAU's SBDC Takes Top Award

The Florida Small Business Development (SBDC) at FAU recently won the Nonprofit Award at the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce's 22nd annual Triunfo Awards Gala.

The event benefits the Luciano Martinez Scholarship Fund, which awards local high school seniors annually to assist with college expenses.
