In a world of social distancing and virtual communication due to COVID-19, a first-of-its-kind study by Elan Barenholtz, Ph.D., associate professor of psychology in the Charles E. Schmidt College of Science, and Michael J. Kleiman, Ph.D., a postdoctoral researcher at FAU, compares the fixated gaze of 173 participants in a real-time online connection versus a pre-recorded video.
The published results showed that participants fixated on the whole face in the real-time condition, and significantly less in the pre-recorded condition.
