Suicide Prevention Awareness Month

September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. This is a time to raise awareness, speak on issues, and normalize seeking help. Whether you’re facing struggles, helping a friend, or simply advocating for others, your voice is extremely important to us at AgriSafe. This month is dedicated to recognizing the warning signs for suicide, encouraging open conversations about mental health, and connecting people to proven treatment and resources. When we stand together in strength, dignity, hope, and purpose, we can make a difference in someone's life.

National Recovery Month

First recognized in 1989, National Recovery Month promotes new evidence-based treatment and recovery practices, supports the nation’s strong and proud recovery community, and highlights the dedication of communities and service providers who make recovery possible. In honor of National Recovery Month, the White House proclaimed the week of August 31 as the 2025 Overdose Prevention Week to remember the lives lost, support grieving families, and renew the nation’s solemn commitment to ending the overdose epidemic.

A variety of federal resources are available to support individuals and their families:

• The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) created the National Recovery Month Toolkit, a one-stop shop for resources and messaging for community members. SAMHSA’s website also provides links to treatment, recovery, and overdose prevention support.
• Centers for Disease Control and Prevention: Stigma Reduction, a helpful guide describing stigma and how it can affect prevention and treatment services.
• National Institute on Drug Abuse: Preferred Language for Talking About Addiction – This resource helps readers identify stigmatizing words and provides person-first language alternatives.

To learn more about programs created by the Federal Office of Rural Health Policy to support recovery, visit the Rural Communities Opioid Response Program (RCORP) on HRSA’s website. Each of the RCORP Centers of Excellence provides a clearinghouse of information and resources for prevention, treatment, and recovery that are specific to rural communities.

Nationwide’s AgStravaganza 2025 (Des Moines, IA - September 9, 2025)

Dr. Tara Haskins presented Protecting the Health of Agriculture with AgriSafe Network in Des Moines, IA, to Nationwide agribusiness insurance professionals at their AgStravaganza 2025 training event on September 9. Over 800 attendees were there for training on a range of topics addressing mitigating risk for their customers.  

2025 Rural and Health Center National Graduate Medical Education Conference (Rockville, MD - September 10 -12, 2025)



Laura Siegel, AgriSafe's Health Communications Officer, presented a poster and exhibited at the 2025 Rural and Health Center National Graduate Medical Education Conference in Rockville, MD. There was much interest in the poster, "Innovation for Residents and Faculty: Introducing the Rural and Teaching Health Center Residency Training Program," as well as AgriSafe's resources on zoonotic diseases and reproductive health.

Zoonoses in a Changing World FREE Webinar - This presentation focuses on vector-borne pathogens by discussing the vectors and trends with geographic distribution, temperature effects, and habitat management since the late 1890's through today, and potential future impacts. We are seeing in real time, the expansion of the geographic range of certain tick and mosquito species. At the end of the webinar, participants will be able to: identify historical trends and issues with vector-borne and other zoonotic diseases, summarize One Health concepts and applications to zoonotic pathogens, and identify issues and solutions for vector-borne disease prevention in underserved populations.

The 98th National FFA Convention and Expo will take place October 29 – November 1, 2025, in Indianapolis, Indiana. This inspiring event will bring together hundreds of thousands of FFA members from chapters across all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
