The Behavioral Health Education, Retention, and Expansion Network of Nevada (BeHERE NV) is a new workforce development initiative to increase the number of providers of behavioral health care in Nevada. In 2023, the Nevada Legislature unanimously passed Assembly Bill 37 to create a statewide behavioral health workforce development center within the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE). In September 2023, the NSHE Board of Regents designated the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) to serve as the administrative hub for BeHERE NV and to build connections across the state. | | | |

Yuhan has played an incredible role in shaping BeHERE NVās digital presence, from helping design and develop our website to creating our Career Pathways sectionāone of the largest and most valuable features of our site. Her work has created resources that will continue helping students, educators, and future behavioral health professionals long after her time with BeHERE comes to an end.
We are so grateful for Yuhanās creativity, dedication, and thoughtful contributions to our team. While weāll certainly miss having her around, weāre incredibly proud of all she has accomplished and excited to see where her talents take her next! š

| | Volunteer Opportunity: Emergency Response | | |
Are you interested in supporting Nevada during a behavioral health emergency or disaster? The State of Nevada has established a coordinated response process to connect vetted behavioral health providers and qualified volunteers with emergency response efforts. This is a great opportunity for licensed behavioral health professionals, interns, and undergraduate and graduate students who are at least 18 years old to get involved and support their community during times of crisis. When a critical incident occurs, the State or local Emergency Operations Center activates trained and credentialed providers through Emergency Support Function 8.1 (ESF-8.1), helping ensure those affected receive safe, effective behavioral health support.
Once vetted, behavioral health providers may be called upon to support:
- Individual and Family Assistance Centers (IFACs)
- Emergency Shelters
- Reunification & Identification Centers
- Other countyāled emergency response efforts, as needed
How to Get Involved
If you are interested in being vetted as a behavioral health and/or other crisis responder, please visit SERV-NV. Based on your credentials, you will be placed into one of two current categories under the State of Nevada Behavioral Health Response Plan:
- Licensed Behavioral Health Providers
- Non-Licensed Behavioral Health Support Volunteers
To be vetted and accepted as a crisis responder, you will need to:
1. Submit the following information through SERV-NV:
- Personal and contact information
- Occupation
- Deployment history
- Qualifications
- Linguistic and cultural competencies
- Medical history
- Organizational affiliations
- Consent for a background check
2. Upload proof of completion for the following trainings:
- Psychological First Aid (PFA) ā available in-person or online through an approved provider
- ICS 100 ā Introduction to the Incident Command Structure
- ICS 200 ā Basic Incident Command System for Initial Response
- ICS 700 ā Introduction to the National Incident Management System
- ICS 800 ā National Response Framework
-
ICS courses may be completed in-person or online through FEMA
3. Provide proof of current licensure, if applicable, as a:
- Clinical Professional Counselor (CPC)
- Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
- Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT)
- Psychologist (PhD, PsyD)
- Psychiatrist (MD/DO)
Once vetted, you will become part of a ready network of professionals, providing behavioral and/or spiritual assistance, who can be called upon to support our community during a critical incident response. If you choose to not be vetted through this portal, you will not be permitted into county-led crisis response due to liability.

How can we help young people find their voice, build confidence, and strengthen their sense of connection? The upcoming APHA School Health & Wellness Section Virtual Book Club will explore these questions through J. Chad Mitchellās book, Change Your Game: Empowering Young Leaders to Ditch Doubt, Find Their Voice, and Impact the World.
BeHERE NVās Dr. Sarah Hartzell will join the conversation on September 16, 2026, discussing how parents, educators, coaches, mentors, and other adults can create opportunities for young people to develop leadership, agency, identity, connection, and hope. These experiences can play an important role in supporting youth well-being and mental health.
This conversation aligns closely with BeHERE NVās commitment to supporting Nevadaās Kā12 students and creating stronger pathways toward behavioral health careers and community well-being.

| | Our Graduate Assistant, Cassia Ciciliano, recently joined Dr. Ashley Noel Pruitt at the 2026 LIMA Community Resource Sharing Meeting on Friday, August 28, 2026 at the East Las Vegas Community Center. The BeHERE Team had a wonderful experience connecting with organizations and community partners from across the Las Vegas area. They had the opportunity to learn more about the resources available throughout the community, build new connections, and see firsthand the incredible people working to support Southern Nevada. | | |
Chris Rocket, B.A., Administrative Assistant III, joined (former) BeHERE NV Graduate Assistant Yuhan Bi and Dr. Roberta Miranda-Alfonzo for a celebratory photo marking the arrival of their official BeHERE NV hats! š

With three familiar faces, some new BeHERE gear, and a photo that may or may not have a hint of Oscar selfie energy, this moment was a fun way to celebrate the people behind the work and the growing BeHERE NV team spirit. š
