Happy New Year!

February marks National Eating Disorder Awareness Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about the complexities of eating disorders and promoting conversations about mental and physical health. This month, we are excited to support this important cause by launching our new Self Esteem and Body Image Journal, designed to help teens strengthen their relationship with themselves and foster a more positive body image.

In addition, we’re introducing a comprehensive Self Esteem and Body Image Digital Toolkit filled with free resources, tips, and exercises aimed at encouraging self-reflection and growth. Whether you’re on a personal journey or supporting someone else, these tools are here to help guide and empower you. Join us this month as we work together to break the stigma, build confidence, and promote healthy self-esteem for all.

Self Esteem and Body Image Digital Toolkit

The Self-Esteem and Body Image Toolkit is a comprehensive resource designed to empower high school students to embrace their unique selves, foster a positive body image, and build resilience against societal pressures.

This toolkit combines engaging activities, reflective exercises, and practical strategies to help teens navigate the challenges of self-perception and self-worth in today’s world.

This toolkit also aims to equip teens with the tools they need to challenge negative self-talk, embrace their individuality, and cultivate a positive mindset. By fostering a supportive environment, we hope to inspire confidence and resilience in the face of societal pressures, ultimately empowering students to shine as their authentic selves.

SpeakUp Club Highlight

We are excited to share highlights from our recent visit to Glen Allen High School, where our staff had the opportunity to engage with students!

We discussed with the students how each person's fingerprints are unique so no one can be you better than you can, and we emphasized the importance of embracing yourself and your unique qualities. Check out the thumbprint artwork the students made!

Club Activity Idea

Encourage the SpeakUp Club members to paint Positivity Rocks!

Rock painting is a simple and fun way to calm down after a long, stressful day. Whether your rock is a tribute to someone or just a reminder to “breathe”, this peaceful activity can be a calming way to let your creativity roam while also relieving stress.

Once you’re done, these helpful stones can be placed around the classroom or be given as gifts!

The act of rock painting is pretty self explanatory. First, you’re going to need to find several smooth rocks (preferably ones that stand on their own). The ideal rocks are found near rivers or lakes, however, if these are not accessible to you, then you may find luck in parks or woods.

Take a damp paper towel and gently brush off any excess dirt from your rock. By doing so, your rock will dry faster and be ready for painting sooner! After your rock is clean, figure out a message or image that you would like your rock to portray! Finally, paint away with acrylic paint!
